This intersection is a nightmare for pedestrians in general. The city seems unwilling to do what needs to be done to fix it. My wife has almost been hit more than once, and at least one incident for me, in which I screamed at a motorist for laying on his horn when I had a walk light and he had to wait 5 seconds.

"Unwilling" implies there is an easy, self-evident solution that is quick to implement. Maybe it appears all that is needed are some keystroke entries in the controller? Wish it was that easy. Changing the operation for one possible solution is a multi-day, mini construction project. There are downsides to different options.
