Oh its more then a rumor, observation over the years shows that the north end of town gets better tree care, better sidewalks (I reported a tree coming up on my sidewalk 3 years ago and again every spring since. When I served on a jury where someone fell and got hurt on a sidewalk, the city ended up paying over $70,000 in restitution for thier injury, Hamden does not seemed to be concerned), the south end also gets better snow removal, public works responds quicker, and lets look at the schools how many of the schools on the north end of town are on the needs to improve list and how many on the south end? Oh, and it turns out that in order to qualify for extra tutoring you have to be in the free lunch program, so the theroy is if you can offord to pay for your kid to eat lunch at $2.00 a day you can afford to pay $500-700 a month for tutoring, HELLO!! working in Wallingford, I find the same thing there too. I just always figured the end of town with the highest property value paying the most in taxes get the best service.

If the road has not been done in 50 years, its high time they get done right instead of a quick fix.

I guess paying taxes on two houses in the south end of Hamden doesn’t compare to taxes on one house in the north end

I live in the north end on Brooksvale and the road SUCKS big time. Go down near the park and you'll lose the front end of your car if you go more than 10 mph. The roads in the entire town suck. And now they're paving Shepard Ave so in a month or so the snow plows can ruin it. Smart.

No the street hasn’t been paved and there still seems to be paving going on in the area. Helen St was the latest street that I've seen

maybe people should keep there nosey attitutdes to themselves. maybe if people parked their cars in driveways when it snowed there wouldn't be a need for paving roads and replaceing curbs and sidewalks.

people park on the street for a number of reasons and if they didnt snow plows would still come though and take out the curbs and lips or push show into driveways after it has been shoveled out. not sure what the basis is for the nosey comment but if we call ourselves neighbors my thought was we look out for one another and what is in the best interest of the street we live on and travel.

A flyer was placed in everyones mailbox on Weds explaining the need to call the town to get Furman Rd on the list for street paving. Hopefully residents will pick up the phone to show how important it is to have a street we can be proud to say we live on. Beautification brings up the value of all the homes.

there needs to be a different point of view from the homeowners on the road also. half the roads in the area have houses that give off the perception that no one gives a crap about there yards or neighborhoods. Theres glass all over the streets, garbage piles up, yards full of weeds. And then comes the towns responsibility. There is action that needs to happen within the area for not only functional and aesthetic reasons but safety reasons. curbs crumbling from age and plows, city plows digging into yards and then never coming back to replace or fix the damage, Kind of funny though as they are quick to damage your lawn even when you put out reflecters in the winter so they know where not to plow..but do they ever want to fix it?? No. garbage truck and recycle personnel letting debris fall from the truck and not caring.. Wish I could put the for sale sign up but we will never get anything nowadays. Hamden doesn't care about its residents, especially in our end, very evident. Thought Scott Jackson was going to turn things around..the only thing he has turned around is his back to the issues so far. hopefully that will change.

Point taken. Residents do have avenues to resolve issues. The Mayor has an action line, calling public works will address the issue with messy trash collection, and as a community we can offer help to those who are unable to stay on top of or unaware of how to remedy the weed issues. A beautification day sounds really good. Sharing flowers and know how is a wonderful thing. We are neighbors and walking by homes and not talking to people is doesnt acomplish much. where ever you go there will always be those types of issues.

The town Hamden has come around and tagged a tree as condemed but done nothing to remove of make it safe. in bad weather sections of it have come down God forbid someone parks their car and sections of the tree damage rheir vehicle. the town makes it seem as if they are not liable

There is now a pothole in the middle of the road. Wonder how long it will take to get it fixed.

I have been calling the town and have gotten mimimal results. what a I noticed and am happy about is people are reading these posts and making comments some helpful some just venting. So I have raised awasreness and that is a good thing. And just maybe someone feels like I do and will pick up the cause and make a call as well. the more calls they get maybe the will pay more attention to our street.

The year is almost over and the issues havent changed. would like to make a new start in 2012.

Lets see if we get his attention and get something done. what a difference it will make if each person makes one phone call and leaves one message. there are more than 35 homes on our street. that is bound to impact any viocemail system or tie up anyones day

Well another year has gone by and spring is upon us. if the town isnt interested in neighborhood beautification in our community, Furman Rd certainly is. I applaud those who took perrenials last year and planted. thank you to those who bought plants. you should see them sprouting right about now. i will be purchasing more to resell at half store cost from the money rasied last year. hopefully there will be people interested in planting again when the weather warms up. we have new neighbors and hope tey hop on the band wagon. if there are any new ideas for community projects please feel free to share.

latest update on furman rd paving trucks were out yestrday digging again for gas company. i guess we have another patch job to look at

Not sure if all are aware but New Haven Mayor and Housing Authority have been pushing to get the fence taken down on Woodin Street. Hamden Mayor is not posing any opposition even though residents have said they did not want fence removed. I guess the traffic and the crime in the area is a mute point since it doesnt affect those who dont live over there. N ew Haven has formed committees focused on traffic, and policing and asked Hamdn residents to particpate. Doing nothing is not an option if you expect the fence to remain. they are constructing housing and paving roads as we speak.

This is a disturbing issue. And by the way, its the New Haven Housing Authority, ultimately funded by the federal government when it comes to aiding New Haven that is pushing for this, along with no backbone from our Hamden mayor to stop this. Not fully Destefano who is pushing for it. I attended the forum they had a few months ago and was extremely dissapointed about the way people acted and the way our elected Hamden Mayor Jackson handled himself (having to be removed from the hall and needing Jack Kennelly (sp) to take over). Mayor DeStafano was there and had a very good idea. that individuals meet with there district reperesentatives and form small working groups to meet with others from New haven. I attempted to do this. I called our representative and have not heard back. I have called, I have e-mailed.. I am fed up. This was suppossed to be tabeled for a year until we could come together again. Unfortunately, mayor Destefano is in his last term and will not be worrying about this issue. This, along with backdoor dealings and meetings that are not heard about regarding this issue are occurring now more than ever..

There is a Fence Committee and they have been meeting with residents of New Haven along with the New Haven Housing Authory and Hamden and New Haven Police at the Okeefe Center.Hamden Mayor was supposed to show up with current info on a few diferent issues. he never showed. Everyone should be asking where is Berritta Rowe and Ossie Brown? Haven’t heard hide nor hair from them in regards to this issue. But you can best believe they will be out asking for your vote to represent the neighborhood next go round. Time for a change. Talk to your neighbors. Be the one who passes out info when you have it. Individuals have been printing stuff out and putting it in mailboxes to get the word out. It only takes one person per street.

Woodin St fence is coming down and residents on Woodin and surrounding streets should show up at the planning and zoning meeting on 27 May at 630pm to voice their objections. check the town website for location. meetings usually held at Miller library

At the traffic dept meeting for Oct residents on Furman Rd requested speed bumps be installed to slow down traffic on our street. The Police Chief also said crosswalks were supposed to be painted. Asking residents to please follow up with Chief Wydra to ensure it gets done.

Its bulk trash time and there is info on what to do with hazardous waste. check for pamphlets in everyones door on Furman Rd. Please be sure to conact public works for street sweeping and tree commission for planting trees. Its that time to spruce up. There are also free flowers(bearded iris) sitting in pots availaible just ask

Residents should hat would like trees or stump removal should take advantage of the opportunity to connect with the tree commission via Hamden town website.

There is now a Tree Commission and they actually gave out free trees on Earth Day. Please continue to use the town website to put in request for what you want. If you don't make your needs known they will continue to be ignored

Furman Rd is potentially losing yet another tree. Tree has split and someone came by to cut the tree. It now appears to be half a tree. the question is will recover or have to be completely removed

Good news for Furman Rd residents. Most residents that wanted a tree received one. Planting went well. It was asked that trees be watered everyday until fall and mulched so heat doesn't absorb all the water during the hotter months. please protect the bark at the bottom of the tree from weed wackers and animals urinating on them as that damages the tree.

Its that time again. Furman Rd Celebration. planning is starting and looking for suggestions for dates. there are at least 5 new families that have moved in since last year and it is a great opportunity to meet the neighbors. doesn't have to be anything elaborate. Just food and fun. Check your flyers for planning meeting info. Need to decide before next planning and zoning meeting if we want to block the street.

I know it doesn't seem like Spring is right round the corner but this weekend is daylight savings time. the opportunity for beautification has come again. throwing wildflower seeds after the snow is gone will guarantee color in less than 3 weeks. even stores like family dollar have started selling boxes of flower seeds and potting soil.
