I live around the corner from Oakwood Park and have two issues with the park.
1. Many of the dog owners who visit this park seem to be law-abiding, respectful citizens. However, a few bad apples spoils the whole bunch. Several people refuse to follow the basic rules of the park. On a daily basis, I see dog owners who just open their car door and let their dog(s) run free through the parking lot as they follow behind them, walking to the gate. It is not the dog's fault, but an excited dog will often sprint up to me as I am walking my young daughter through the park. These owners need to leash their dogs until they are inside the park. Speaking of inside the park, many owners do not even GO inside, opting instead for the openness and freedom of the softball fields. I guess these are the kind of carefree spirits who believe that nothing else matters when they are throwing a frisbee with Fido. Who cares if the neighborhood children have to fight with entitled dog owners when they want to use the park, or if softball/kickball players have to dive through piles of dog puke and poop? This is ridiculous and selfish.
2. At night, this spot is a popular spot to go park with a prostitute and/or do some drugs. I have seen condoms (at least they use condoms, I guess...), crackpipes, broken bottles and other signs of late night mischief. In my opinion, anybody within this parking lot after dark should get a visit from the RPD. The signs clearly state that the park closes at dusk.
I can't be the only one who feels this way....
Please, PLEASE, tell us how to address these issues.
