I live at 361 Newark Avenue. There is a crosswalk directly across the building. On the cross street there is also a stop sign, but this particular location does not have any traffic control. It is difficult for pedestrians to cross from one side to the other since there is no traffic light or stop sign. If a car does finally decide to stop, the cars at the stop then begin to go and do not give pedestrians a chance. I have also seen quite a few accidents in this location due to the crossing of pedestrians.

S. It is very difficult to see that this is a crosswalk. There is no sign indicating so. I am not sure if adding a stop sign here will help since there already is one on the opposite side of the street. A street light may be a better suggestion.

There was another crash here yesterday; S/b van driver was rear-ended just in front of the crosswalk connecting 361 Newark to the Little Gym https://youtu.be/BmDJxH7iTic
I didn't see it happen (heard it though!), but it's consistent with a pattern at this crosswalk where, due to high speeds on Newark Ave, when a driver stops for pedestrians in the crosswalk, the driver behind them rear ends them. Obviously there is potential for the front car to be pushed into the crosswalk/pedestrians. Someone else in my building reports this having happened in 2019 when she was trying to cross.
Looking forward to whatever other redesigns / traffic calming might be coming down the pike for this stretch of Newark Ave. A business (a grocery/deli, I think?) is opening on the ground floor of 361 Newark, and this couple-block stretch is now 100's of people's front doorstep, so the unstriped 4-lane-wide status quo + 6th street slip lane is not ideal. Thanks for your work on this.

I just crossed here. A Via van slowed for me but didn't stop, SUV driver behind honked and was cheating on the double yellow, looking to pass the Via bc it slowed to like 15-20mph.
After they both passed me, the SUV passed the Via on the right while they were both moving, on what is supposed to be a 1-lane (each way) road, almost hitting a cyclist who was also going the same direction and was on the right side of the road.
It is just so messy down there, the shape of the road tells people it's a highway, and they lose their minds when someone stops for pedestrians in a crosswalk or, to make a left across oncoming traffic. It would be amazing to build it down to like a 15mph road, like Grove by City Hall. Hopefully that is what's being looked at. Thanks again.
