Apologies for piling on to somebody else's request, but here's an additional comment, since I go through here every day:
I was happy when the flashing yellow was added for eastbound traffic last year (previously only the westbound traffic on Rte 60 at Holden St had a flashing yellow). But in practice, these don't seem to have any effect. I never see cars stop for pedestrians at this crosswalk, even when the pedestrians are actively out in the street and traffic is moving slowly enough to react and stop safely.
The other day I watched as a driver (who easily could have yielded) honked and pointed to the flashing yellow light as they drove past somebody in the crosswalk. My guess is that drivers here are assuming that since they don't have a red light, pedestrians must have a "don't walk" signal. The walk signals are not active, so this assumption doesn't work out particularly well.
