Floodlights on roof - Light Pollution
I’m curious as to why the intense floodlights on the top of these tall apartment buildings have to be illuminated all night, every night, for decades.
I do not think there is an outdoor pool or running track or anything else on the top of these buildings and it would be wonderful if the lights could be turned off except if there was some sort of emergency or maintenance operation.
Dark skies are a good thing
Thanks

I must admit that subsequent to my request, and upon further “at close range” inspection, these lights appear to illuminate the parking lots, and not the roofs of these apartment buildings. However, since the lights are at the roof level and there are multiple buildings within the complex it does appear from long distances that these lights are in fact illuminating the roof.
I do sympathize with neighbors who are much closer, in that the photometric analysis would probably indicate there is no way to illuminate such a large parking lot without lights located at certain height above the ground.
I would think it is possible, however, to remove the lights from the roof and bring them a lot closer to the ground, but the light scatter from flood lights in general is difficult to control.
Of course, well lit areas have been proven to be safer at night.
Nonetheless, it would be helpful for the city to take a look.
Thanks again
