This is an ongoing problem with the city. Parking engineering is stuck in their old ways. Closing off the park 10-12 hours before an event has a disproportionately negative impact on the entire neighborhood for both drivers and pedestrians alike. We are creating dirty busy streets for out kids and these events mostly cater to suburbanites and those privileged enough to have off work.

Thank you! This has a few other tickets open and quite frankly I would like to see this run either done on a weekend or moved entirely to somewhere appropriate that isn't the middle of an already nightmarishly congested downtown area.

I'm all for closing the park more often, we should just look at street parking regulations at the same time (i.e. eliminate or reduce alternate side of the street parking on a weekly basis as the streets aren't cleaned anyway) or resident only parking at night rather then during the day.

Closing the park more often is a suggestion that comes from people who aren't impacted by the parking in that area on a daily basis. While I understand the sentiment, Madison is Street swept and it needs to be every week, otherwise we have a lot of hypodermic needles, broken glass and other dangerous material in the street. It's not appropriate to expect residents to move their cars every two hours during the day, either. We have people of every age living in this area including people who are retired and no longer go to work daily and shouldn't have to move their vehicles every 2 hours. Because we have to compete with the businesses in the area, there would be a lot of difficulty for both residents and employees of businesses if the park could not be used for parking. It sounds good in theory but I don't think people realize how few parking spaces the city allots per building in the downtown area. I believe it's 50% of what they allow in the suburbs where there is a lot more room and less dense population. Many people try to walk or take mass transportation but that has challenges at night and a lot of us are required to have cars for our jobs.

I swear it’s like Albany wants people to leave and for downtown to become a wasteland…oh wait 🤔

It's the same non-answer that you get if you call the Mayor's office. They take your information but never call back and nothing ever changes. To be honest, they only way you'll get through to them is at the ballot box.
