My husband just got home and told me about his experience at this same intersection. Whoever is supposed to be fixing it hasn't done it yet. My husband pressed the pedestrian cross button like 4-5 time and the countdown started but when it got to 0 it just stayed green for traffic on Webster. He finally had to jaywalk after waiting more than 3 1/2 minutes. This is ridiculous.

I just crossed this intersection yesterday, and it was not working. I pressed the button to cross Santa Clara from the bank toward Cafe Jolie. 2 light cycles and the walk signal never came on even though the light changed to green. Not the exact previous issue, but perhaps the 'fix' created a new problem.

I agree with what Misti said. In fact, the same thing is now happening at the light two blocks down at the intersection of Webster and Lincoln. What i observed yesterday and today at BOTH lights, was that the light for traffic running on webster street, when the pedestrian walk light finishes its cycle, the light STAYS green on Webster for what seems like an eternity to those of us waiting on Santa Clara [and also on Lincoln!] for the light to change. Instead of whoever trying to get fancy with the light, why don't they just put it on SENSOR, much like the light at the intersection of Santa Clara and Grand St? Now THAT is a great functioning light!

The Public Works Department is aware of the ped light sensor at Santa Clara and Webster Street. We are working with the manufacturer and will have a solution shortly.

I don't think you guys even read these things, because this issue has been outstanding for MONTHS now! The light at the intersection of Santa clara and Webster is still not set correctly. The pedestrian walk signal goes 24/7 even without anyone pushing the button. half the time, it actually cycles twice, causing people who are waiting to actually make right on red turns, and then do u-turns, just to get through the light. Is it so hard to FIX this thing? Just put it on SENSOR, like the light at the intersection of Santa Clara and Grand. Now THAT is a perfectly set light!

Once again, I do not think you guys read these things, because as of today, February 19, 2015, the lights/pedestrian cross signals, are STILL not working correctly at all. The pedestrian signal at the intersection of Santa clara and Webster goes on a cycle and keeps on cycling to give pedestrians the walk signal on webster to cross Santa Clara, if no cars approach on Santa Clara. If a car approaches the light on Santa Clara, and the pedestrian signal is in the middle of a countdown, when it gets to the end, it will give a WALK signal AGAIN, even though a vehicle is there waiting for the light to turn green! So once again, the vehicle will have to wait through another pedestrian walk cycle. This happens 24 hours a day. Then, if a car approaches webster and the pedestrian walk signal is still in "walk" mode and has not begun the countdown, once the countdown ends, then there is still a pause of several seconds before the light FINALLY change. This whole intersection was perfectly fine UNTIL they started doing some kind of work there with installing light poles or something. Why not put the lights on AUTOMATIC SENSOR, LIKE THE LIGHTS AT THE INTERSECTION OF GRAND STREET AND SANTA CLARA??? Please READ THIS and FIX! THANK YOU!!!

Keith - I just called and spoke to Mrs. Carlson and she had me to speak to the guy in charge of that area Bob. He is sending out a technician to check it out today. But if you keep observing the problem he asked if a video was possible to demonstrate the problem. Their number is 510-747-7900

OK, once again, this just amazes me, in that the people who have jobs, can't seem to do them! Doesn't anyone CHECK behind these people to see if they are doing their work? Obviously not, because this issue has been outstanding since August of 2014! Oh, they do SOMETHING to the light, but they never really FIX IT! The Pedestrian walk signal for people to cross Santa Clara Avenue at the intersection with Webster St, STILL goes through an AUTOMATIC cycle, 24 hours a day, even if NOBODY requests a walk signal. So, if you drive up to the intersection of Webster on Santa Clara, you have to SIT THERE for what seems like an eternity, while the Pedestrian Walk signal goes through its 20 second countdown. And THIS is if you are lucky! If you arrive at the intersection and the signal is already in the middle of its pedestrian countdown, when it concludes, it will go BACK INTO THE WALK signal AGAIN, even though NOBODY IS THERE REQUESTING A WALK, all the while one has to SIT THERE with the GAS RUNNING THROUGH THE ENGINE, all because some engineer who doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground, allegedly does SOMETHING to the lights at this intersection. Can someone who actually KNOWS what they are doing, please look into this?

Although it is still not perfect, the light does seem to work, FINALLY.
