The water main valve on Harden Rd. near Summer St. has failed when recently operated and it has been leaking for a month or so. Harden Rd. and Evelyn Pl. water mains and valves were to have been replaced in August that has been delayed because of the Orange Line shutdown. When residents are on temporary bypass piping, the water mains and valves will be replaced. As Water Utilities has had difficulties in this neighborhood getting existing valve shutdowns, one to three full line pressured insertion valves would be necessary to stop the leak and cut out the failed valve at a cost of $20-60,000. Water Utilities looked into this, this week and even if the city was willing to accept this cost before the Friday 8/19 Orange line shutdown, we were unable to get our emergency contractor on site to installed line stop(s). At this point Water Utilities hopes once the Orange Line shutdown buses are off Summer St. Engineering will have the contractor start this work on Harden Rd. and Evelyn Pl. as soon as possible.
