It is illegal to put anything in tree pits

What's wrong with Gingkos? They are beautiful and provide good shade, plus they are resistant to both drought and auto exhaust.

Nope - Ginkgoes on Central Avenue do not provide any shade and they are not doing well.

You have to give them some time to grow.

all newly planted Ginkgos 70+ of them were undersized and should have never been planted, with 1” caliper when contract specified 2” - a significant difference in size. Now the avenue is dotted with struggling little sticks when it could have been much more uniformed and beautiful. The tree planting was paid by our taxpayers money including yours btw. We deserve beautiful commercial district with beautiful healthy and shade providing trees. Unfortunately when lay people are in charge of landscaping streetscape project - this is what we get.

There doesn't seem to be any contract administration by JC officials. The same thing is true with catch basin repairs -- many of them have been re-done and are collapsing into the sewer, leaving gaping holes that are very hazardous.
JC is probably paying millions to contractors who are not fulfilling their obligation.

yes very sad, where are our tax money going? Streets are littered endlessly, garbage everywhere, crumbling sidewalks, roads paved only to be opened up again…we can do so much better here for sure…
