  The North Street for All Safety Enhancement Project began as a conceptual idea in the summer of 2019 with temporary “pop-up” bicycle lanes on North Street. Since that time, several public meetings took place where the Traffic & Parking Commission, the Bicycling Advisory Committee, City Councilors, Neighborhood groups, the general public and local businesses had opportunities to provide feedback as the design plans were being developed. This effort also involved parking amendments to the City’s Traffic Ordinance that were reviewed and adopted by the City Council. In addition to the feedback, design plans were developed based on data collected, including vehicle speeds and volumes, crash data and parking utilization along this corridor. Additional monitoring and data will be collected once the installation is complete. The goal of the project is to reduce vehicle speeds and crashes on North Street while providing space for bicyclists and enhancing crosswalk areas and transit stops for pedestrians.
