Description
In a previous issue ID: 1397221, I understood this would be signed as "Yield" or "No Stop Required for Right Turn." But the construction is finished and no sign.
For northbound traffic on 5600 W entering onto 201, why not make a continuous-flow right turn lane (with a yield sign) so that traffic doesn't have to stop? There are 2 lanes on this approach ramp, so a continuous-flow right turn lane would not restrict any southbound traffic trying to enter the approach ramp.
During rush hour, the northbound traffic on 5600 W can back up for 1-2 miles trying to get on 201. This simple solution could really get traffic moved through that area.

Larry,
Thank you for taking the time to submit a comment through our Click 'n Fix program. The northbound right turn from 5600 West to SR-201 is intended to be a "continuous-flow" right turn, commonly referred to as a channelized right turn or free right turn. Often times, the striping alone is enough to inform drivers that a right turn acts as a channelized or free movement, which is how this location is currently operating. However, given your comment UDOT Traffic & Safety will monitor this location to determine if additional enhancements need to be made, even beyond what you have suggested, to ensure that this movement is operating as it is intended. Once again, thank you for submitting your comment and helping us keep our roads safe.

Hi Larry,
Thanks again for your comment. You are right that this movement is not currently acting as a free right turn. Additional upgrades were supposed to be implemented at this location with the recent SR-201 project that included a free right turn. It was brought to my attention today that these improvements did not get added to the project, possibly due to funding issues. However, we do understand that this location is currently an issue. It is considered one of our "choke point" projects. As a result, it has been proposed to be added to our Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for approved funding. We are hopeful that we will receive funding by the summer/fall of this year. Until that time, this movement will be required to stop on red, yield to conflicting movements, and then proceed when the right-of-way is clear. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Again, we do understand that this is an issue. Thanks for helping us keep our roadways safe.

Mr Richman,
Please disregard the previous response that was sent to you. It was intended to be a response to another comment UDOT has received at a different location. As previously mentioned in the first response back to you, UDOT has been monitoring this location. In regards to your comment about if you didn't stop and a police officer saw it, you would get a ticket is NOT correct. There is currently no stop bar for the northbound right turn; therefore, you are not required to stop and this would not be enforceable by a police officer. However, even though there is no stop bar requiring vehicles to stop, we have noticed that when the stop light is red for northbound traffic, some vehicles do tend to stop who are making a right turn. A "No Stop Required on Red" sign is not an approved sign by the Federal Highway Administration which sets the standard we are required to follow. As an alternative, we are looking at providing a sign that notifies turning vehicles that they need to yield to pedestrians and that right turning vehicles have a dedicated lane to turn into. Nonetheless, we do agree that additional signage needs to be added at this location to better inform drivers. Depending on how busy our maintenance crew is, it can take up to 3 weeks to get either or both of these signs installed. We appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention.
