The tree is not the reason people are running the stop sign. They run it even more in the other direction. I drive this many time every day. If you are not speeding, the stop sign is very visible and the tree has been trimmed. More trees would actually slow traffic of at least the responsible drivers.

Infruriating. That was a picture from last Summer and had been trimmed, as whoever came to cut cold see. The tree is NOT the problem. Cars speeding through the intersection in BOTH directions do not heed the stop sign. I just got to spend a couple days doing yard work and witnessing it. The issue is speeding. And the branches that were just cut faced my house - not the street or sign. It provided needed shade for my porch and the front of my house, which is why we bought the maple. As the tree grows it gets further and further away from the sidewalk/road. It looks ridiculous now and will not help the health of this poor street tree, which has a tough life as it is. Summit Ave is desperate for more significant trees. Sadly our street gets hotter and uglier every year as trees come down and are not replaced. Someone in the neighborhood must have a vendetta against trees. Trees clean the air, increase our property values, deal with storm water runoff, actually slow traffic, save energy, fight climate change, help birds, beautify and have recently been shown to improve mental health. If you look at neighborhoods from above you can tell which ones are thriving and which aren't by how green the streetscape is. What is needed is a tree canopy along Summit Ave and Federal. We need to work on that.
