The drunks and druggies don't belong at the bus stop. The bus stop is for people who need to take the bus. This bus stop is a problem. There are people who hang out there all day and are obviously not waiting for the bus. This bus stop is also a problem because it is a hub where many buses tie up traffic and create a dangerous situation for motorists and pedestrians alike. It might make more sense all around to have one central hub for the bus transfers, away from traffic and with proper security to minimize the problems that are present at bus stops like this one.
The drunks and druggies are not "less socioeconomically privileged". They are people with substance abuse and mental health issues. They should be in treatment, not at the bus stop.

Why that area has been left fallow for so long vs. developing a new building there is beyond me. With over $1.5 billion in development going on in the city I'm vexed at why no one is looking at that spot.

@ Frank- although it would be preferable to treat addiction and mental health issues, you can't force that on someone. Blame Ronnie Reagan.
And although there already is a hub system for our bus routes, there still needs to be other stops.

To make that area better the city should be working hard to identify a developer for that space and put up a building. That way there's no longer just an open space to loiter in.

We have enough buildings. We need some decent patrol cops.

DONT U DARE EVEN THINK @ CLOSING THAT BUS STOP!!! I ride the bus all the time and I'm not poor!! What I am however is annoyed and really disgusted at how this area is NEVER EVER attended to by the police! There are drunks, addicts, panhandlers, derelicts and LOUD arguments by angry drunks and the constant stench of urine!! People who ride the buses have no where to sit and wait for their bus!!! I hope now that the bldg. on the corner is gone so will these parasites! They dont like to be out in the sun!

We definitely need better police patrol of the downtown area east of Temple St. I talked to two cops who were standing at the corner of Church and Chapel and they said they have to remain stationary, which is ridiculous.

Why would that be considering there is a police sub station right there??!! What happened to the community policing? Or isnt the lower half of Chapel part of the cmnty.???
