I would really be interested in knowing the logic behind going from two lanes to one without notice.

The city’s Office of Transportation planning reviews the city’s resurfacing list every year to see where bike infrastructure can be added to match the bike plan. The bike lanes from Pamlico to Ramblewood were installed to make the connection to the existing bike infrastructure south of Ramblewood.

New markings were installed for the right lane drop with a right arrow-“ONLY”-right arrow in addition to a “Right lane Must turn right” sign being installed. Staff will verify that these items are in place and add an additional “New Traffic Pattern” warning sign for both directions of travel.

Removing a lane of traffic on a busy road such as this may be why the city is having to spend our tax dollars on traffic calming.

Installing the bike lane is fine. I don't have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is the center turning lane was significantly increased in width which in turn took away the second lane of this road to from Pamlico to Currituck. This not only is hazardous, but this also cause unnecessary traffic build up on Lassiter waiting to turn right onto Currituck. The turning lane width is too much.

I drive this every day and have noticed most vehicles almost wreck at that point. Regardless of the statement above by the city of Raleigh, it's not enough if there's still an ongoing issue. And did the public have any input into this? I'm in favor of bike lanes, but this decision was a horrible one and the city should consider changing it back before 1) a biker is involved in an accident or 2) cars have multiple accidents.

This case should not be closed if it's still an issue. Closing it only means it's actually been resolved.

This needs to be put back the way it was. There seems to not have been any thought put into this at all.

I agree with johnhinnc 100%. For one thing- the road was fine and didn't need repaving. There was enough room to simply repaint and include a bike lane. Traffic is backed up now in both directions and cars aren't even in a straight line because the width of the lanes makes no sense. I live off Lassiter near this colossal mess and pay over 12K per year property taxes but never had the opportunity to voice my concerns before this asinine decision was made - this has impared my commute immensely and needs to be repainted. I and others are involved in near misses every day as the road suddenly ends at Pamlico heading into the beltline and folks scramble to get in the straight lane. Plus the traffic lights are still configured for multiple lanes adding to the confusion and danger on this road, and I don't want my tax dollars spent on remedying this stupid mess that shouldn't have been done in the first place.

This issue has been opened for over 60 days. The city closed it once thanking me for my comments. I take it they just do not care what any of the city residents/taxpayers think about this colossal waste of taxpayer money and poorly thought out traffic configuration.

That CoR wants so much to make itself more "friendly" to bicyclists for political and self-promotional reasons, even to the extent of intermixing and endangering cyclists and vehicles, speaks volumes about CoR's real intentions. And now, after millions of dollars have been spent on this project without reasonable input from the residents, no one wants to step up to say it was a mistake and a failure. As a bicyclist, those lanes convey are very false sense of security. As a driver, they are confusion and impossible to navigate without crossing into no-man's-land. What a waste of taxpayers money.
