Deskripsyon
The Northern Strand path is once again covered in snow. I would like to remind the city that this path gets used by people on foot and on bikes, to get to work, school, and conducting whatever other business they may have. If left untreated, even an inch of snow can be a big problem. It goes through a cycle of melting and re-freezing, and the impressions left in the snow become icy ruts.
If you look at the attached picture, you can see multiple sets of footprints and bike tire tracks...when those turn into icy ruts, the path becomes extremely difficult and dangerous to use, and it also makes the path more difficult.
I would also like to point out how, as shown in the attached picture, the street is quite clear, and even the ones that haven't been touched by a plow truck are significantly clearer than the path, and this is largely due to the fundamental differences in weight and heat of car traffic from that of people on foot and bikes.
I would also like to request that this issue gets assigned to someone higher up than the head of the DPW, because Mr. Knox is insistent that plowing or otherwise treating the path for relatively small amounts of precipitation is pointless. I think some fresh ears need to hear about this. At the very least, a response more detailed than "we don't plow the path for just one inch of snow"...maybe at least try to give a convincing reason for why this doesn't get done?
Thanks

Ari,
What I said was that we do not salt the bike path and when it is plow able snow we would plow the path. I would assume that your not stating that while we are out salting the streets for public safety that I should be plowing the bike path at midnight instead of treating the streets. I walk the bike path quite frequently myself and enjoy using the path but there is a time and a place for everything and right now its for taking care of the streets. If you would like to discuss further I would be more than happy to meet with you or you can call me on my cell phone at 781-389-2524.
