This has gotten completely out of hand. My neighbors and I are frustrated, disheartened, and embarrassed at the level and frequency of dumping and trashing happening at the Seminary exit off 580 + the entrance to 580 west + under the bridge linking to 13. It happens over and over again. City of Oaklsnd, we implore you, please build barriers and/or install cameras. We cannot monitor these areas on our own! We need help from the city! I've heard neighbors talk about lighting the piles on fire to get the city's needed attention. Of course, that's not the desirable course of action - but what are we to do?

This is truly a job for captain planet!! Or if he is unavailable, possibly a crew of local offenders from Alameda County Jail. I agree with surveillance, more than likely its the same person probably at 3am when all the city sleeps.

It's all along Mac Arthur particularly along the cemetery walls, I live on 68th and I pick up as much as I can, but we truly need to find a way to keep Oakland clean, and trash off our streets!!

Illegal dumping problems on Mountain Blvd. (the frontage road), Seminary and MacArthur Blvd. are indeed problematic and there are daily requests for trash bags/mattresses/furniture, etc. But PLEASE do NOT set anything on fire! That could go horribly wrong.

City of Oakland - Relying on people to report illegal dumping and then having the city deploy clean up crews is not a long term solution. We need to implement effective deterrents, barriers to prevent dumping in the first place, e.g. Clear prominent 'NO DUMPING' signs, installing cameras, signs with hotlines that promote neighborhood watches to report illegal dumping.... What else can we in the neighborhood and the city of Oakland do?

We are tired of seeing our neighborhood trashed!

"In the old days" 'No Littering' campaigns were very prominent in the schools. We grew up with slogans like "Don't be a litterbug." Much of the trash we see along City streets is the result of littering.
We can all see the fast food wrappers, cups, cartons and the like and realize that such stuff is thrown from cars or dropped on sidewalks without any consideration for the neighborhoods. Where to start? Civic and school groups could mount campaigns against littering, buses and BART could display signs, etc.

The trash problem has gotten much worse over the past few months and is unacceptable. Want all these new residents who are supporting the economic growth in Oakland to pack up and leave? Keep doing what you've been doing! We demand cleaner streets.

The City should report it on the link to Caltran. They get a quicker response time than individuals do.

Would it be possible to install cameras on the seminary off ramp and mountain blvd just before the on ramp to 13? It is clear that these are favored dumping spots for individuals who are clearly in the business of picking up debris that they are pretending to haul to the dump. No sooner does the city clean it up then they dump again in the same spot. Seems like cameras could save the city a lot of money in Cleanup costs. I saw a man with a white pick up dumping on mountain in broad daylight.... but by the time i was able to turn my car around and try to get a license plate number he had finished his "job* and pulled away.

The trash on the on/off ramp of seminary, the road along the side of hwy 580 heading towards hwy 13 AND under the freeway of 580 headed towards hwy 13 is notorious for illegal dumping of large items and trash. We value our neighborhood, just like the communities in piedmont and Montclair. We would like to see our neighborhood clear of waste as well. If these neighborhoods can some how keep their neighborhood free of these eye sores, please help us figure out a way to also decrease and hopefully eliminate this illegal dumping in our area.

most inexpensive step to start with
1) city posts "Violators will be cited" signs and start the fee at $1000 (saw this in other busy, crowded cities = San Jose, San Francisco, Berkeley) and surprising didn't see any TRASH/ dump sites
2) utilize those revolving billboard signs to notify/ educate the city of proper utilization of city services (WM bulk pick up, locations for dumping, and any potential fees associated)
3) Cameras installed at these repeat offender locations (offramps, empty lots, busy corners)- This however is the most costly option that the city will most likely push back on as " don't have funding".
