Descrição
The current design of the construction site detour is very insufficient. The two through lanes for cars are untouched, while the space for pedestrians is completely removed, and people on bikes are expected to take the lane with inadequate signage.

Thank you for sharing your concern. The current condition is a short-term one, which provides a 14-foot wide shared vehicle/bicycle lane for through movements, and a dedicated left turn lane. It was not desirable to eliminate the dedicated left turn lane, as this lane is controlled separately from the through movement. This allows for a protected pedestrian crossing of the very heavily used south crosswalk across Galileo Way, without conflicts from westbound left turns.
Within the next few weeks, the Broadway median will be partially removed. This will allow for establishment of a marked bicycle lane, as well as a temporary pedestrian crosswalk with a pushbutton activated flasher, roughly 2/3 of the way between Ames and Galileo.
Unfortunately the logistics of the construction at 145 Broadway do not allow for continuous pedestrian access all the way to Galileo. For safety's sake, we urge pedestrians to observe the posted pedestrian detours and to not walk in the roadway.

If possible, please try to leave space for cyclists to make a two stage left from Galileo Galilei Way northbound onto Broadway West bound. The dedicated left turn lane on Galileo Galilei Way can be difficult for cyclists to use and a former city Traffic Engineer suggest we do a two stage left since there is ample room for that, so I'd hate to see that option removed.
Thanks!
