Description
Playground unsafe! The Lewis Street park is missing ALL its playground mulch. We live up the block and my kids play here all the time, but my 3 1/2 year old daughter falls all the time while climbing and there is no cushioning under the playscape. From what I understand these playscapes need a certain depth of mulch to keep kids from getting too hurt.

Thanks parks department staff for beginning to address this issue. A neighbor who is watching the process would like clarity about two points:
1. Is a herbicide being used in the area where the mulch will be put, around the play set? If it has not been applied, is there an alternative that would reduce possible risk to children using the playground?
2. The top of the slide has been covered. We assume because of the damage at the bottom of the slide. Is there a plan for repairing or replacing the damaged part of the slide? Will this happen before the summer ends?
Thanks again for helping us keep the park open, beautiful and safe for the kids in our community.
