Has PANYNJ explained to City officials how it will monitor and (if necessary) address overcrowding on the JSQ-33 and NWK-WTC lines during the Penn Station repair work starting next week?
I have read that PATH will run extra service from Hoboken but they do not seem to have considered that many Penn Station-bound NJT customers are likely to transfer to PATH at Newark to avoid delays getting into Penn Station.
JSQ-33 and NWK-WTC trains are already filled to capacity during rush hour. They cannot safely accommodate additional riders unless PANYNJ runs more service on these lines. Please let me know. Thank you.

As PER PATH,
▪ PATH does not anticipate additional (beyond present daily) riders to disembark NJ Transit trains in Newark and transfer to PATH. NJ Transit’s operating plan during the Penn Station repairs was designed to avoid any delays between Newark and New York Penn Station.
▪ Additionally, PATH will not be cross honoring customers at Newark.
▪ The NWK- WTC and JSQ- 33 currently operate on a 4 minute headway during peak periods.
▪ This was part of NJT’s considerations when they created their service plans for the Penn Station repairs. NJT understands PATH can assist by operating more frequently on the Hoboken – 33 line thus, they opted to divert midtown direct M&E customers to Hoboken.
▪ PATH is encouraging customers to plan ahead for their best options this summer during the outages, and to allow extra travel time as well, because we know that crowding will be an issue.
▪ There will be additional Port Authority Police Department presence throughout the system to quickly mitigate crowding issues.
