Description
Many years ago, when Weatherly Road was widened from a two lane road to a four lane with turn lane road, the City installed a bike path that runs alongside the concrete sidewalk on the north side of Weatherly Road. This bike path runs, basically, from Bailey Cove to Blanda. I have used this bike path for a long time, but it has never really been kept up. Fallen limbs, lawn debris, broken glass, overhanging limbs have always been a bit of a problem, but I have never reported it hoping someone else would. I feel simply cleaning up the path, repaving it would improve the overall look of the area and provide a safer route for bike and pedestrian traffic of the area.
The asphalt of the bike path itself is uneven partly due to roots lifting the surface and general deterioration of the path itself. People still use this route, as I generally see one or two bikes or pedestrians using the route anytime I am traveling Weatherly Road in my vehicle.
Would you consider making some appropriate improvements to this path as it is an excellent connector for reaching the new Walmart and the bike path system off Bailey Cove Road and any improvement to the path would improve the overall appearance of the neighborhood.
Clearly, given the adjacent traffic and street crossings users of this bike path must negotiate, this is not a typical modern bike path, but is still a much safer route to ride than traveling on Weatherly Road with powered vehicles.
One thing I would suggest, which used to exist at each road crossing along the bike path, and was a part of the original concept of the path included small stop signs intended for the bike traffic. This worked in my generation, but may have to be revised for the stop if you want to generation of today.
Thanks for your help!

When Weatherly Road was widened from a two lane road the black top bike path was constructed running parallel to the concrete sidewalk on the north side of Weatherly Road.
Illegal to ride on sidewalks? Mind you, I am from the generation of metal dash boards, no seat belts and lawn darts, but we sure had sense enough to ride on the sidewalks whenever we could rather than ride on the road and risk getting run over by a car. Have things flipped since my youth, but I digress.
All kidding aside, thanks HSV for thinking on this one.
