Even if there was a police officer issuing tickets to speeders, that would help discourage the problematic behavior. Currently, S Pettigrew Street is being used as a cut-through from the businesses on New Bern Ave. Every resident on S Pettigrew Street has to contend with aggressive, speeding drivers as we pull into and out of our driveways. Quite often, these drivers will attempt to pass as we make a left turn into our driveways on the same (left) side we're turning into despite the fact that we gradually slow down and use our turn signals. At least one accident and countless near-misses have occurred as a result of this scenario.
Most importantly, the children that live on this street and the heavy pedestrian activity is in constant danger of serious harm from the high volume and speed of the cut-through traffic.
