Description
The old Broadway Hardware store at 1326 Broadway has been empty for over 5 years. There is a city of Burlingame ordinance which prohibits store fronts on Broadway being used as storage such as the hardware store. The city code enforcer needs to send a letter to the property owner. As a resident on Paloma ave, it is an eye sore in the neighborhood. The owner of the Broadway Prime uses the space as his storage. the entire neighborhood is very upset because the city has not done anything about it. Broadway is declining because of store fronts like this one.

Thank you for your submittal. It has been referred to the Code Enforcement officer for investigation.
The Planning Commission approved a café/coffee business to locate in the former Broadway Hardware space. That should represent an improvement from the current situation. Meanwhile any current use of the space will be required to conform to all applicable zoning regulations.

Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your message.
I'm sorry but we do not have a code that prohibits storage in this space. Storage can not be visible from the public right-of-way but the windows are properly screened, which I confirmed today.
Thank you,
Rachel
