  Do you know when construction started and whether or not they posted a notice? It appears https://aca.accela.com/OAKLAND/Cap/CapDetail.aspx?Module=Building&TabName=Building&capID1=17CAP&capID2=00000&capID3=21399&agencyCode=OAKLAND&IsToShowInspection= is the permit they're using for this work. I think that they didn't post a notice about the street being torn up and I think that the work has been ongoing for more than 6 days which appears to violate their permit.

  Thanks Mike, I do not know if they posted a notice, I did not see one, but I could have missed it. It's just a mess and not an even surface in any way. People are driving on the wrong side of the road and I think given how long it has gone on, its a safety concern. They were there yesterday putting tarmac down where they dug up again on 55th and its just more of a mess. This is not the first time they have left the roads in a bad state. They was previously metal covers on where they had dug up that were very uneven and then removed leaving large holes.

  Its really puzzling why it is taking several years to finish those units. Does anyone know why it is taking so long-are they being targeted for ongoing permit issues? Are they planing to have them be rental units or selling them outright? They look like great spaces for artists so I am looking forward to people moving in! I am excited for them to have residents as I think it will make Lowell more populated and therefor we will have less issues of folks dumping garbage along Lowell, plus more artists in our neighborhood would be more fun and interesting.

  They will be rentals. They had a meeting with the neighborhood at Destiny Arts before they started construction. 2 years ago?

  I heard they had trouble with one of the contractors who were supposed to resurface the road. Now it's a different company and they are, according to one of the workers, supposed to be done on Monday 10/30. Though, I'll believe it when I see it. This whole thing has taken WAY too long to finish.

  A better question is, why does the City of Oakland require them to resurface the road on 3 sides? None of those streets were in bad shape. Not only that, they're only repaving 1/2 of the road. Why?

  I LOVE that they planted trees! More trees on Lowell!I wish there were tress along all the Lowell warehouses between Adeline and Powell....

  justlabo, based on the permits that appear to have been issued for that site, it looks like they had to excavate under the street to connect utilities to the units. I don't think the city would have required them to resurface the road if they hadn't needed to excavate.

  Mike, you are correct. They did excavate certain portions of the roads currently being resurfaced. I agree that re-paving there makes more sense. However, there was no excavation on Lowell St between 55th and 56th. Yet, that entire section is being repaved, well, half of it anyway. The workers I talked to said that it was a requirement of the city due to it being "new construction".

  I like the trees too. Hope they wrap it up soon.

  They re-paved it again last week in an attempt to fix the bumpiness, and just made it worse.
