Can't be long now before the mayor posts that he personally took care of the issue himself and that they weren't actually blocking access anyway. So let me preemptively point out that even if there technically is enough room for one to get by, our sidewalks CANNOT be made into obstacle courses for the elderly, the visually impaired, the mobility impaired, parents pushing strollers, and anyone else who wants to use the sidewalks for their intended purpose, which, by the way, is to give pedestrians a place to walk safely.
Inspected this at 9:45 this morning and the bikes were not blocking the sidewalk. The company must have addressed this prior to my arrival or they were in compliance to begin with.
I'm familiar with the location in question and the manner in which the bikes were arrayed last night. Based on that and the mayor's comments, apparently it means that if there are bikes on one side positioned across one half of the sidewalk and then just a few feet later a bunch more on the other side blocking the other half and making it impossible to walk a straight line and instead forcing everyone to have to weave back and forth, that's just fine.
I can only conclude from all of this that the promoters and defenders of this program, unfortunately including our mayor, care more about able-bodied people riding bicycles than disabled and elderly people being allowed to use our sidewalks for their intended purpose. Sad.
