I feel so sorry for people who have businesses on Lark. It's so trashy and dirty, no one cares anymore, least of all the city.

The BID and building owners have to be held accountable too, and just because someone is a renter doesn't mean we can't care about the buildings we live in and our neighborhood. New businesses and customers would be a lot more attracted to the area if it looked appealing. High rent on a street that doesn't look good isn't a good investment. The same for the business end of Madison. Clean up and take care of the property. I just noticed the city cut down the tree in front of Ben and Jerry's when they did the sidewalk. It now looks ugly there too. The Madison end of Willett used to have trees and now looks barren and ugly also. So sad for such a potentially beautiful historic area.

What I said Saturday morning on this very forum, was... I am a skater. I pass Lark Street daily. I too have noted the decline in our fair neighborhood. Mater of fact I was punched while skating on Lark Street just a few week's ago. A stranger rushed over to me and hit me HARD in the chest, knocking me into a wall. Hewas not healthy looking and was getting ready to strike me again except for at that very moment another stranger intervened and rescued me. Two day's later, same route, and a new (sick looking) stranger was threatening with a large rock, all (Lark) street. Had I not been in skates I would have unable to escape. I asked in the comment (not posted) for MORE police on our street and in our neighborhood. I do NOT like that we have to deal with panhandler's, or drunk's or trash. Please POST.

Still waiting for the promised beat cops until 5:00 A.M. Too much focus is being put on the warehouse district when this area won't take care of itself and the BID has different priorities than many residents.

Yes, I skate this often (slowly) and really appreciate the well lite corridor. I notice the same panhandlers every single time. Actually I give them my opinion often too. They are not ashamed of themselves one bit! I asked the police about this ugly and was told it isn't illegal. What is the game, and how do we play this better, safer, and best of all ... fix it? I got punched by a stranger on LARK last month and if that bouncer setting up tables in front of Hollywood café had not rescued me, the attacker was gearing for a second shot, me on skates and still off balance from the first hit! Then 2 days later a new stranger threatened with a brick... good thing I was on skates! All on Lark at 2-3 PM. Broad daylight. I would LOVE to see foot patrol and horse patrol, not to mention those cool bicycle's our law enforcement team uses, patrolling all of this residential/commercial district all year round. (and more camera's please)
