Universal Hotel Liquidators is allowing their deliveries to park on the PArk's department Ralph Walker Lot. The trailer in the photo was similar to the other three on the Universal Hotel Liquidators lot.
If there is no tax dollars to pave the lot next door, Universal Hotel Liquidators should cough up money or the city should fine them.

The owner contacted me and told me that this in fact was not their trailer. He also told me they will be fixing the windows and talking to the building owner about the razor wire fence.

The owner will be receiving orders to remove the razor

Our investigation in reference to razor wire at 1058 state, prove not to be a violation because the fence is not within 412 ft or 25 rods of a residential dwelling.

The Razor wire is only 328 feet from a residence.

And the new razor wire fence is 40 feet from our houses on Mechanic as well. See Photo

This is pretty cool. Ben, you've done a great job of building out SeeClickFix. I would have loved this when I ran the City's Traffic and Parking Department to (a) prioritize work and manage staff and (b) demonstrate the gap between departmental resources and the demand for services. And Rafael: if the razor wire is not within 25 rods of a residential building, how many cubits is that?

I was not aware of the fence on the machanic street w just looked at the state street side. We will look on machanic and send a new letter

I have personally inspected the fences at the old star supply property today and have processed a letter to the owner Mr. Larry Cohen for a razor wire violation at the following Properties 140, 160, 170 State Street and 49
Mechanic Street. Letter will be delivered sometime this week by State Marshall.

Glass has been fixed.

Met w Larry Cohen last week. He said he would take down the razor wire. Very nice guy. Alex Marathas made the intro and we got a tour of the factory as well. Was really cool in there.

LCI is City Hall. Rafael has been very responsive to our concerns. If nothing else they are citizen customer service and an ally to those of us trying to get issues resolved in our neighborhood.

Its my understanding that the LCI toolkit has been expanded to include fines and liens if it comes to it.

LCI is the agency contracted by the city for inspections etc. They have NO power except to go out inspect, and send a letter. Again, better off calling the appropriate agency directly. LCI is not the answer The city should not renew the contract, and hire and train the inspectors themselves. Ever try to get through to them??? I rest my case. No further comment. Rely on LCI, i hope you are happy.

"To all concerned, Although we take all issues very seriously, we prioritize them in order of how they affect the immediate health and safety of the General Public.

The issue at hand, although it may violate the CT General Statute on fence requirements, it is not really a zoning issue, it is under the authority of the fence viewer Mr. John Prokop from the Dept of Public Works.

I am deputized as fence viewer to investigate and report back to Mr. Prokop for his review. This is an ongoing concern of ours as well, and we are making strives to abate conditions. Last spring, a newly installed razor wire on Mechanic Street was removed, this was a priority as it affronted residential housing.

The issue is not closed, the property owners are cooperating, however, I'd like to mention that as the official who is responsible for responding to complaints that may come from any of the 55,000 units in the City of New Haven, such as displaced families due to code conditions or any other emergency that may arise in residential properties, there were other issues and concerns that were more of a priority on this Thanksgiving evening. As all issues that arise, come directly to my hand-held device. I view them to ascertain if it is something that requires immediate attention.

We ask for your corporation in regards to the urgencies of postings, in particular on Holidays as I do not ignore anything that comes through the site, and would like to continue viewing postings as they appear."

Just some clarification: LCI does have subcontractors that do things like graffiti removal. The inspectors however work directly for the city.

Please try to be more respectful of people on this site as they are listening and some of them, like Rafael, are so concerned about the citizens of New Haven that they let their Blackberry ping them at Thanksgiving dinner when you comment on this site.

I too was frustrated by some of the limitations of city inspectors but that is not LCI's fault.

Also, you should know, that it was Rafael that got the fence taken down on the other side of this building.

Additonally, if you look to the left you will see that Public Works and the Mayor's office have been notified as well.

i agree that this business is an accident waiting to happen.

have you ever walked through to the very back? stacks and stacks of mattresses and furniture up to the ceiling. someone could get hurt, and its probably overrun with rodents and bugs. so gross.
