Thank you for reporting! Public Works has an illegal dumping team whose sole job is to respond to illegal dumping reports throughout the City. On average this team removes 1,200 pounds of trash from public property every day. We strive to respond to all reports in a timely fashion. If you see someone dumping illegally please report the incident to the Vallejo Police Department.

Does the Mayor or City Coucil read these reports? Obviously, they are not interested in running for office again!! Vote them out. We demand a clean city!!

Just look at the parking lot of the $.99 store. The City is turning into a real dump.

So instead of taking 5 minutes of the citys workers time to pick up the garbage, you have pushed it off on caltrans and the garbage remains in place for all to see as they drive down sonoma blvd! What a crock of crap and bureaucracy! You people should be ashamed of yourselves! Take a little pride and maybe 5 minutes of your "very busy schedule" and pick up the garbage! Isnt that why we pay for a maintenance division through our tax money! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why are you not pushing caltrans to clean the off ramps and on ramps and all of sonoma blvd? Its not the place of the citizens to contact caltrans, its you, the city of Vallejo to enforce it! Quit kicking the can, STEP UP!

I certainly agree with Mr Stephenson!! Since the City, Mayor, & Council Members Condone squatters & other persons, to live in tents any old place, & generate all this garbage problem I would think them responsible for contacting CalTrans, relaying the information & keeping the community safe from public health issues . Why is it this behavior is not tolerated in nearby American Canyon or Benicia? Yes, step up & do your jobs!!!!

When will Vallejo figure out that there is no incentive to stop this - without enforcement. The City must change their disposition of not pursuing or fining violators. At some point we have to be fed up with that attitude. The City will have to put forth some effort with the City Attorney. The theory that it costs less to just have it cleaned by the City Grounds Crew as apposed to the legal costs of finding and fining violators. This policy is not working for the residents of Vallejo, it shouldn't just be law of the jungle out there.

Even when given photographic evidence with the vehicle, license plate and face of the offender in the process of dumping, nothing will happen, even though they ask you to report it. When I spoke with the city attorney he could not recall one case of illegal dumping coming through the system.

7.44.160 - Rewards.
Every person giving information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person for a violation of Sections 7.44.080, 7.44.090, 7.44.100, and 7.44.110 is entitled to a reward therefor. The amount of the reward for each such arrest and conviction shall be fifty percent of the amount of the fine paid by the person convicted under this chapter and received by the city. If the reward is payable to two or more persons, it shall be divided equally. The amount of collected fine to be paid under this section shall be paid prior to any distribution of the fine that may be prescribed by any other section with respect to the same fine. (Ord. 1595 N.C. (2d) § 2 (part), 2007.)

Enforcement is the answer, without it there is no deterrence and therefore it will continue. Being offered free neighborhood garbage bags and saying “that we’re working with several departments to find a solution to this problem”, seems to be falling short. Take a look at any other city and how they handle the problem - which is to follow through with the fines and prosecute the people. I understand the logic of cleaning up these messes promptly, otherwise who would want to buy a home here? Just out of curiosity I’d love to know what the city spends on cleanup of illegal dumping, they tell us how many pounds they haul away daily. What else could we get done with that money?

You will not see curtailment of dumping in this city until there is enforcement, at least for the most egregious violators. The city’s disposition to just clean up after dumping because it’s less expensive than the legal process of fining them $1000 has to change.... someday.

This has to be one the most well written comments regarding the situation at hand that i have ever seen! Recently i took a photo of a man dumping garbage on broadway st, car license, picture of the man and the garbage that he was dumping. I click fixed it and the response was , call the police dept! Like they have the time to investigate illegal dumping! If the fines for illegal dumping where imposed and from what you have written regarding the amount paid for reporting the dumping and upon conviction, i honestly think this would have a big impact on illegal dumping! The city needs to step up and make it known that they will persecute you if caught. Honestly, this will never happen!

Robert L, why dont you drive down sonoma blvd and look at the filth along the road and contact CalTrans yourself! You got to be kidding me! What a bunch of bureaucratic bull! You must not live in Vallejo, City Hall will get a call from me for sure now! Quit pushing it off on Caltrans, i know that its there responsibility, but getting them to do it is worse than getting you people to do it! No wonder this town looks like a garbage dump, none wants to take the responsibility to clean anything up! Pathetic!

I actually contacted Caltrans and they came and cleaned it up within 2hrs! The only problem with it is i actually saw the truck make a u turn at the corner of sereno and sonoma blvd to head back north. Right there at the turning lane was enough garbage in the median too fiil 2 garbage cans, the driver from caltrans looked right at and kept driving. Another employee paid for by us ignoring the obvious! The city of Vallejo needs to get off there @#$% and take this town back from the bums, homeless, vagrants and squatters if they want to move forward with future businesses wanting to come here!

I contacted Caltrans as the city didnt seem to want to and was amazed at the response. Within hours of emailing Caltrans, on my way down sereno to sonoma blvd, a Caltrans truck was in the process of making a u turn at the light to go back north, ignoring the pile of garbage mounded up at the median traffic light. The Caltrans truck proceeded north to meet up with another Caltrans truck who was cleaning up the garbage i had taken pictures of and submitted to click fix. The city needs to have more cord-nation with the state regarding there responsibilities when it comes there roadways, on ramps and exits as everyone into and out of this town are a disgrace!

Wiliam, my hats off to you for getting the job done. I agree that Public Works/City of Vallejo needs to revise their methods of reporting and addressing issues.

Hats off to your success William!! This is ridiculous that there isn't a continual pickup of garbage, etc, by the City Fathers. They know where the sites are !! All one has to do is drive down any street to see the mess!! Thanks for doing their job William!!

All this bureaucracy from the cov about contacting Caltrans regarding the garbage makes me sick! Its simple,just pull up in a truck, pick up the garbage, fine the people who own the property, and i can bet you they will keep it up in fear of having to pay another fine, this isnt rocket science! I guess the cov has to create jobs for this as does caltrans, just start cleaning up all the CRAP that is starting to pile up! I am the one that contacted caltrans regarding this garbage sight, the city kept throwing it back in my face saying it wasnt there problem, now your taking credit for it!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want your paycheck!

Agreed, just send the grounds crew to pick it up. Again what is the difference for them to pick up a few hundred more pounds of garbage? At least until Caltrans and the city of Vallejo reach some sort of agreement on how to keep this clean between them.

Once again the garbage is piling up on the side of the road! Whom am i to contact? The city, the state well who is it? Just pick it up!!!!!!! Why is this like pulling teeth! Simple, pull up in a truck pick it up! If i was running the the maintenance division i would embarrassed at the filth that surrounds this town! Step up at your job and make a decision to put more people on cleanup!

Grounds Maintenance? So, cleaning up the trash is the only answer? All due respect, this problem is deeper than trash. The city block from Redwood to Sereno looks like a ghetto half of the time. I understand the homeless have to be somewhere, but the ones living in the parking lot of the 99 cent store just don't give a rats @#$%. I live here, and I don't like how much like a dump it looks, imagine what a tourist or potential manufacturer or business owner thinks? No wonder nobody wants to start business in Vallejo. If the City isn't careful it could end up looking Oakland.

It looks like Keith is maybe a bit new using SCF (Robert is gone??) and I see he has closed a bunch of old and outdated issues. Some may or may not have actually been resolved. It will be sad to see comment for the Ohio street dumping closed, as it was a great running account of that location. (with the rocks still just in a pile on the lot)
