I turned left onto 201 North from Wasatch Blvd at the La Caille cut off where there is no stop to north bound traffic coming from the resorts. Traffic from the resorts is coming down at 50 mph into this 50 yard merge lane. Are you guys nuts?

Please fix this! It is incredibly dangerous! Besides the 90 degree turns that will be difficult/impossible to navigate with a snow and ice on the road, the merging traffic at 50 mph is dangerous. Then, if you add in the neighborhoods on this road that no longer get a break in traffic, egress in/out of these neighborhoods is so dangerous! Please stop the Northbound traffic with the light and please reduce the speed limit to 40 mph through the neighborhood areas.

It should not take an accident to show that the changes are dangerous. Traffic should be controlled by breaks in the flow of cars headed north in order for the connector roads onto Wasatch Blvd are safe to use. Slowing flow from the canyon is not more important than safe travel for residents of the area.

Agree and also the southbound right turn onto Wasatch is way too sharp and banked so that someone is bound to loose control.

And going from northbound Wasatch to Danish Road is awkward as the height of the road goes up and down.

Northbound on Sr-210 with no impediment, merging with northbound Wasatch Blvd is very dangerous.
Due to lack of snow , we have been VERY fortunate with good visibility and less traffic to get familiarized with the lanes and traffic flow. All this could change soon with holidays coming, snow coming, etc...
Please have the light function as a light should before someone gets hurt or worse. Thank you.

If it ain't broke...
as the comments above have mentioned, the light as to be reprogrammed for safe merging. Also, the tightening of the right hand turn on the southbound lane is not slowing people enough and cars are taking that corner at dangerous speeds. Further calming techniques should be utilized. Heck, the speed limit in this section of Wasatch should be lowered throughout.

Thank you for your feedback on this new construction. It is correct that vehicles coming from Little Cottonwood Canyon do not stop at the signal, so a merge is required between the two movements from Wasatch Blvd and the canyon. We are investigating ways to improve this merge, but it is the driver's responsibility to drive with caution and be aware of the other vehicles when merging.

The expectation when you see a green left turn is that the opposing (Northbound) traffic is stopped, like every other intersection in the world. I invite you to drive this corner yourself, lets say at about 4:00 pm on Saturday this weekend. Good Luck!

Alicia (UDOT) - please listen to what we are saying. Rather than investigate better ways for the traffic to merge, for the sake of the residents in this area, please make the light stop northbound traffic like it did before and please reduce the speed limit to 40 at minimum, and preferably 35 when there are neighborhood turnouts onto Wasatch. We are so tired of UDOT and Cottonwood Heights city leaders catering to our of town skiers and not caring about the residents that live in this area. Is it going to take serious injury, death, and law suits to start flying before you guys listen? The light is in right now and you have the immediate ability to stop the northbound traffic. Why you aren’t doing this today is beyond me! Then you can work to fix it from there. Today is a disaster already out there because we just got slammed with snow. I have to drive that way several times today and I fear being able to even get out onto Wasatch from our neighborhood and I have no idea how on earth I can even make that sharp right turn to go to La Caille because it is so snowy and icy. PLEASE START LISTENING TO THE RESIDENTS INSTEAD OF “STUDYING” THE ISSUE! WE NEED IMMEDIATE ACTUON ON THIS!!!

Alicia (UDOT) It was supposed to be an improvement, not a change that only jeopardizes safety for those who live in the area and people driving there. There is not too much to study, it is actually just getting back the red light to that intersection and reducing speed limits. Not having a red light there only makes cars come down so fast and making it very difficult for those who need get onto/from Wasatch.

UDOT has heard your concern. The merge lane currently is about 715 feet and we are working on plans to extend it. There is a 72 inch storm drain culvert under the road south of the Golden Hill Lane that needs to be lengthened in order for the merge lane to be extended up above. We are beginning with the engineering design and construction will take place between April and May. Thank you for sharing your concern.

NO UDOT... you have NOT heard our concern! You have once again decided what you want our concern to be so you can continue how you want. IT’S NOT ENOUGH!!! You have not resolved 1) excessive speeds through neighborhood egress areas 2) NO stop of the northbound traffic to allow natural breaks in traffic so the residents east of Wasatch can safely go in and out of their neighborhood 3) the ridiculous 90 degree turns in this intersection on snowy/icy roads. So... you didn’t listen at all... you really think a longer merge lane takes care of all these issues? NOT A CHANCE!!! Go back to the drawing board and tell us when you have a COMPREHENSIVE solution that solves all problems you’ve created with this crappy intersection!

Oh... and one more thing... if you extend the merge lane any farther, you will run too close to Golden Hills Dr, which is a MAJOR egress street for the neighborhood east of Wasatch, making this turn out even more dangerous than it already is because you REFUSE TO LISTEN and STOP the northbound traffic with a red light. Are you trying to make this area even more dangerous?

Without a stop light the traffic coming out of LCC is moving too fast. The lefthand turn lane onto Golden Hills from Wasatch Blvd. is sitting such that you are directly facing this head-on northbound traffic coming out of the canyon at high speeds. Since much of the traffic exiting the canyon are skiers, and not local, they are focused on merging and are not aware of the turn lane. Cars are constantly drifting over the double yellow line into the turn lane. There is an extreme risk of a high speed head on collision.

Please address the turn lane onto Golden Hills as part of the rework. In the interim please institute a temporary solution to address this risk. While I understand "it is the driver's responsibility to drive with caution and be aware of the other vehicles when merging", it is the responsibility of UDOT to institute traffic control measures to help control speeds and facilitate a safe driving environment.

Today’s traffic was pretty crazy
Speeding guy must have been going 70mph northbound from LCC when I attempted to turn north from Golden Hills
On my return, east onto Kings Hill drive due to unsafe speeds and merging at Golden Hills
Still a long snake of cars - took approx 2 mins to make my turn by punching it since there was literally no break in traffic
Please make the light cycle red and green at Wasatch and LCC SR210 for the neighborhood’s safety

It’s time to fix this and quit “studying it! UDOT is proving to be one of the biggest inhibitors in this area of working towards the State’s goal of zero fatalities. Turn on the Northbound traffic signal and reduce the speed limit to 35. There isn’t a single stretch along all of Wasatch Blvd that has neighborhood ingress/egress streets that has a speed limit above 40 mph and most with blind corners are at 35 mph. It’s time to quit “studying” it and fix it so we don’t lose lives! Enough is enough!

I have contacted the news agencies tonight to see if we can start shedding a bit more light on this problem. I think over a year of dealing with the nightmare of the High-T intersection, increased traffic, and extremely high rates of speed without a solid resolution to such a dangerous situation is enough! SIGNAGE ERRORS! Please review the 2 MERGE signs heading "northbound" on SR210- at the high tee; there are two signs and they are graphically inconsistent: the southern most posted merge sign indicates Right should merge into left lane.... HOWEVER, within a hundred yards, the northern most posted merge sign indicates Left to merge to right.... CONFUSING!! This conflicting signage is unsafe and can lend to drivers confusion and accidents. However, UDOT wishes to portray this merge just please BE CONSISTENT! It is hard enough for drivers to navigate this clusterously designed nonsense of the intersection, let alone add to increased potential for safety failures by giving mixed signals.

Further, Iv'e been witnessing northbound drivers using the merge lane to pass, now that it has been extended. This is/was not the intent of the lane and just forces cars to run the merge out to the end at higher speeds as they jockey to get back into a single lane... all of this with oncoming traffic. PLEASE FIX this ASAP! Thank you. [KKraan]
