Actually, bike racks to park a bicycle should be available not only at schools but also at many other popular places in Jersey City in order to encourage bicycle usage. For instance, at Journal Square Path station, there are no convenient places to lock a bicycle. We have way too many car drivers and not enough bicycle riders.

Installing bicycle racks at schools builds a good foundation for students commuting other than being driven in a car. It is also good for faculty and staff members to use their bicycles as well. Another area would be in commerce districts so customers have better access to the businesses as opposed to hunting around for a parking spot or a long walk to their destination.

Just counted 6 bikes around the perimeter of school walkong from pershing field on this brisk day. It will also be better to have all bikes in 1-2 areas around the school that can easily be viewed on cameras or outside classroom windows to prevent theft as well. I remember last fall, MS 7 had like 20 bikes locked around the school on street sign poles. Really proud of the ppl using bikes to get here!

Not only MS7 but also Dickinson High School does not have a single proper bicycle rack!!!! Come on people. Let's get this done already. We should be encouraging our kids to walk or bike to school as much as possible. Many studies have shown that kids who bike to school are more alert and ready to learn and are healthier over all. There is an obesity problem and a diabetes problem in this country and more daily exercise is a big part of the solution. Then there is the fact that every teenager who bikes to school means potentially one less car on our streets every morning and afternoon. People say they drive their kids to school because it's to unsafe on the streets for them to ride their bikes yet every parent who drives their kids to school directly contributes to that exact problem Talk about a vicious circle and downward spiral. Let's get lots of bike racks at every school now!

Not only public schools, train station also deserve to have a dedicated bicycle parking facility. Take a look at a city like Amsterdam. The city has more bicycle riders than car drivers. Near a train station, thousands of bicycles are parking. Cars have no future. The future is in bicycles.
