Description
For over a month my neighbor has been setting off fireworks. They do it almost every night of the week, and sometimes for a half hour or more.
The fireworks are being set off from the lot behind 530 Quinnipiac, as well as along the waterfront.
Connecticut General Statute 29-357 makes this illegal, as far as I can tell. I wish the police would ask the guy to stop, since I already have, and he believes he's within his rights to continue.

This is something that could easily be discontinued if the above complaintant(s) approached those responsible the next time they feel their 'PEACE' has been breached. State a simple case. People are shooting fireworks, not guns. They are probably just like you but don't have pets or children.
What's the lead time when cops are called in Fair Haven for fireworks? One hour? Maybe a no-show? These officers have their hands full 24/7 and by calling them over and over is a bigger disservice to our neighborhood then then the complaint itself.
Stop whining, approach the agitators, and address this issue face to face. Stop bothering the cops. It is clearly not working for you.

And did you give him parameters as in 'don't blow another thing after XXPM during the week and XXPM during the weekend'
And correct me if I'm mistaken, but, the last time they were launched was days ago off a pier over the river.

WOW. My ten years here have convinced me that around 1/3 of Heights residents envision our neighborhood becoming a gentrified Westport-esque socialist Volvo community. Whether this is a lifestyle goal or an attempt to cash in on property investments, I know not. Personally I think we are already better than that. We have a functioning diverse mixture of well to do living next to poor, book smart living aside street smart, and slobs living next to prudish types from every corner of the globe. (Tho I have not met an eskimo yet.) The vast majority accept and like each other for the causes and conditions that make us unique and concentrate on improving their own, metaphorical, front yards. Bias stated.
The fireworks have been going on for years, not months. Perhaps you moved here recently? It's practically a 500 block tradition at this point. I have very rarely seen it occur after 10 PM or before 10AM and have noticed all the surrounding homes (mine included) seem to enjoy the free show and go out with cocktails and children to hoot and holler at the spectacle. Folks opposite the river gather to watch too. I have even considered tracking this person down to set up a phone tree so that we do not miss the first few shots.
If he or she is legally using fireworks in a safe manner between noise appropriate hours and providing free entertainment out of his own pocket that the majority of residents enjoy, grab a cocktail and join the camaraderie. If you have some personal, health, business, or misc. reason for the fireworks disrupting your life, bring it up with the parties concerned again. I have not met anybody here who wants to cause anybody else suffering. Laughing outside while watching the big explosions of color in the sky helped me meet my neighbors. GIve it a shot. You are welcome to join us if you wish.

join US? you dont even know the person shooting them off and assume that any part of it is legal which it is not.
New Havens new motto- screw the laws.
Common Sense (Guest)
Oh, Jon, that's right....New Haven's Motto in the 70's, 80's, 90's, etc was 'ANY CITIZEN FOUND IN VIOLATION OF ANY LAW INCLUDING JAYWALKING WILL BE ARRESTED AT ONCE.'
New Haven's past and present motto is 'screw the laws.'

500 blocker, you're off the mark. I'm affluent, but I'm in the area for the diversity. I'm in favor of neighborhood events, absolutely. The fireworks are illegal, and obviously people outside of my family are upset. Have a BBQ, street cleanup, or a neighborhood meeting, and you'll see me there. I'm just not into fireworks.
You're absolutely correct that the fireworks have been going on for years. Just not consistently, and never quite so late. If people ignored it before, that doesn't mean they are obliged to tolerate future incidences.
I don't need to be rude, and I'll try to be more amenable in the future. I'm offended by the generalizations and stereotypes being thrown around though, about "volvo types" and whatnot. That's counterproductive.

This has in fact been going on regularly between 11 PM and 12 AM. Someone shouldn't have to walk out of their house at midnight to tell someone else not to light fireworks. It should be a given when someone decides live in a populated area. Doing so, also puts one at risk of fireworks being aimed at them or their property.
For the morons that enjoy this kind of stuff, why not light them off earlier rather than waiting until midnight. Or, better yet, why not enlist in the army if explosions get you off? Or is it that you just like the feel of that stiff Roman Candle in your hands when you're with your buddies? People are dying in battle and you're playing with your little exploding toys. How patriotic.

the "functioning diverse mixture" doesn't sound like it is functioning for the neighborhood at all, if these people are breaching the peace while a noise ordinance is in place, regardless of whether they are rich or poor.

Um, Juli, the fact that you are still wasting your time with this means your life must be a complete and utter bore.
Do us all a favor and engage in something else beside complaining. July 4th was weeks ago and the noises have stopped.
Complain about the humid weather...or all the dust the construction has been kicking up.
COMPLAIN. COMPLAIN. COMPLAIN. SUE ME. SUE THE COPS. SUE CITY HALL. SUE EVERYONE.

if you read the above comments at all, "july 4th", you would have seen that this event has been happening for years.
your life must be a complete and utter bore if you just need to try to insult people anonymously over the internet on an issue that you care nothing about.

So there are still fireworks going very close to me. I don't have any reason to believe it's the same person/group as before. Very recently, big fireworks were going off until the late hours of the night. I only met one family outside, and they were as bothered by the noise as I was. Short of going door to door, I didn't know what to do. At 11 pm I walked Quinnipiac, Aner, and Lenox to find the people setting them off. Tonight, they're setting off motors.
Not only is this illegal, I'm sure it's disturbing to the peace and quiet in the heights. It's also a major fire hazard. If the same thing was happening on the NH Green, the City would do something. I guess landmark homes don't rate as highly.

Are you kidding me? These fireworks are happening at all hours of the night. They are waking our little one. Not to mention they are illegal and leave trash in the river and people's yards.
