I don't think this guy is parked here illegally, but he's parked in the same spot every day for the past two weeks, and seems like he's just using it as advertising for his business. It's pretty ghetto.

It's not just whether I like it or not. This is clearly being done for advertising purposes, there were still 7 hours on the meter on closer inspection, and it was parked there first thing in the morning....every day.
If you want mobile billboards parking on Whitney, go right ahead and let this pass uncontested.

cars are not allowed to remain in a meter outside of the posted time restrictions. so if it's a 12 hour parking meter, the van is allowed to stay there. i have heard more interesting rules like a car cannot stay for longer than 72 hours in any parking space on a city street (including residential zones) and that after the length of a meter you have to move a car 75 feet or something like that.
my guess is the attorney in question knows these rules and is (creatively) obeying them.

Odis,
I disagree. I'm an alderman in the city and I check this site very frequently - I don't get to every issue in my ward, however I do check a lot of them, and believe this is a great website for crowdsourcing ideas and solutions from more community members and stakeholders.
From the post and comments, it sounds as though the van in question is following the laws regarding parking requirements. However, that doesn't answer if the signage is safe etc.

Odis, on the City's own Transportation, Traffic & Parking Web page it states:
"In order to effectively and efficiently handle issues that occur within the City of New Haven, the department utilizes various methods and tools to handle issues as they arise. One of these tools is through the use of an on-line reporting system called See Click Fix. It's the department's responsibility to maintain traffic signs, bus shelters, traffic signals, parking meters and pavement markings, as well as other city assets. We rely on our division crews for maintaining, installing and repairing these assets but we also appreciate it when you, the citizen, report issues that concern you, as it allows us to maintain a vibrant and safe working and living environment for everyone to enjoy.
By clicking on the See Click Fix link, you have the ability to proactively engage with the department and assist us in maintaining and a healthy and safe working and living environment. Thank you!"
