Thank you for submitting this! I also reported this issue in April when that drain caused an extreme algae bloom after flowing onto the sidewalk for over a week, but the report was closed without being addressed (probably because the source is a private device on the lawn of 67 Spring Rd that pumps out water from their property). But even though this is a "private" issue, it certainly impacted public safety tonight. Almost the entire length of Spring Street was a mess of frozen leaves this evening (yet was fine this morning after last night's rain, which really narrows the problem down to this source). The sidewalk and berm are being destroyed from the constant water (and now the freezing). The device that spews this water is most active the day after (but not immediately after) rainfall. Please address this before the next storm. Thank you!

Thanks so much for responding. I agree that the drain is causing a large safety issue in Spring Rd, especially with the freezing temperatures at night now. The sidewalk is being eroded due to the large amount of water. The drain that I’ve seen active is on the property line of 34 Spring Road and ran several times during the summer even without large amounts of rain.. I took a video of it running to upload to the site, but unfortunately videos are not permitted. Thank you for commenting back. DPW, can someone please investigate this issue? The street is used by many who walk to the train station. Thanks in advance for your help!

Ah, thank you for clarifying that the water you observed is definitely coming from 34 Spring. I didn't mean to misdirect your report with the very similar issue at 67 Spring Rd and I'm glad you emphasized that what you've seen is at 34 Spring Rd. DPW, would you be able to investage both sources of excess drainage on the same street (I realize now that two sources would explain why the main storm drain on Spring Road becomes so backed up even when it's not raining!) when you come take a look at the one reported here, or should I reopen a request for the second location?

I went by this morning to take pictures of both scenes. You were certainly right about 34 Spring Road. Last night the two "streams" merged into one frozen icy mush but now I see that these are two separate sources backing up two separate storm drains. Picture 1 shows the extent of the frozen stream from 34 Spring a few houses down. Photo 2 shows that so much water has been released from 34 Spring that grass is overgrowing the sidewalk! Photo 3 shows the black device from which (I assume) the water flows, since it looks similar to the drain at 67 Spring.

Here are pictures related to 67 Spring. The first shows the backup up frozen/slushy water/leaves running about half the block. The second shows the unsafe sidewalk. The third shows the green device that I've seen release a constant rush of water often when I walk or bike by (it is a little difficult to see under the leaves).

The second set uploaded in the wrong order: the first shows a distance down the street; the second shows the device in the corner of the grass (tough to see under the leaves); the third shows the sidewalk that folks need to attempt to transverse. Cars fly down this road as it's a common cut through so crossing at 67 Spring Road to avoid this then crossing again at 34 Spring Road to avoid that is not really ideal when there are cars parked on both sides sides of this street.

Oh and of course! I was so curious about what you mentioned and it feels empowering/refreshing to have a common goal around this!
