Description

This post is to put the City of Oakland on notice that citizens in and around Lake Merritt are in danger of diseases including but not limited to Hepatitis and HIV, in danger of having their homes burned down and potentially losing their lives in fires and of being victims of assault, battery, rape, theft, etc.

People camping in the Park don’t use bathrooms and their waste is a hazard. There are used needles everywhere that children may accidentally step on, exposing them to diseases. The transients have set numerous fires around the Lake, cut down trees and poisoned wildlife. What if one of these fires spread to a neighboring building like what happened yesterday in East Oakland?

On Sunday a transient was urinating by the Lake and an elderly man told him to stop. His wife joined in and as the transient started to approach the man my friend grabbed the elderly man and walked him out of the area. My friend put his life in danger my heading off this confrontation. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN and if my friend had been hurt trying to be a good person I would have held the City responsible.

The City posted flyers again that on April 4th encampments will be removed from the Lake. The last time this was done only a few sites were cleared and they came right back.

City of Oakland - Do it right this time. Clear ALL encampments and keep them OUT permanently. You owe it to the tax paying citizens of Oakland to put their safety first for once.
