The city legal department and zoning are looking into this to see where we stand. Someone will be addressing the car on the sidewalk issue. The parking in general and the air b&b that is allegedly being run at this location are the issues being looked at. As far as I can tell we dont have any ordinances dealing with an air b&b type business. We allow rentals, (but dont really address this type of rental) but these people generally only stay a few nights, not the 60 days required for reciprocity enforcement. There is no documentation generated that identifies them as Indiana residents. Its seems to be more like a hotel/motel but steps would have to be taken to officially classify this type of business as such. They are not actually visitors because they are renting and they aren't residents because they are not here long enough. It's not as simple as it seems at face value.

Starting call group on this issue to our state rep, the mayor, the assessors office. Bad precident trying to let frat houses into our neighborhoods and lower our property values and more. Another very sad day with our government.

It is illegal to block a sidewalk in the city. We solved that issue by putting a copy of the city's parking ordinances on their windshield. Look under "quick links". Parking ordinances are located in Title VII, Traffic Code, Chapter 72.

Is there a way that our city council could vote on airbnb's and make them illegal in the city of Hammond thus overriding the law that the state legislatures passed in 2018?

I’m out until at least 1145pm today. This will be continually monitored. Captain Alcox is correct, because they’re “visiting” they do not fall under a permanent resident Reciprocity ruling. Blocking sidewalks, however, is opening up the violator to be cited. Perhaps attempting to make the entire street “resident only” parking would be a course of action.

Unfortunately the owner of 2030 Stanton HAS NOT discontinued advertising on airbnb as of today.

This will be brought to the attention of the City Attorney Monday morning.

We need a meetimg with the mayor. As many residents as possible.

This was covered Thursday at a Crime Watch meeting. The City sent out the “Cease and Desist” order last week. If it’s the intent of the property owner to ignore this order, the next step, per the City Attorney, is to file a lawsuit against the owner.
