Description

Sidewalks in the block of 8255 Quarterfield Road in Severn are in ill-repair and are more of a pathway than actual sidewalks. The walkway being referenced is the section of Quarterield Road between Lenora Drive and Harriet Drive. Sections of the sidewalk have been damaged by trees growing too close to the sidewalk, some areas are grass-covered or crumbling, some people park their cars on the sidewalks, and at the intersection of Lenora and Quarterfield there is a utility pole which is so close to where the sidewalk should be the pathway is very narrow and difficult to walk on. These sidewalks are not even wide enough for two people to comfortably walk side-by-side, and at times forces people to walk in the road. Quarterfield Road is quite heavily used by vehicular traffic including cars, trucks of all sizes, emergency vehicles, and commercial vehicles (all of which rarely abide by the posted speed limits). Adequate sidewalks would help reduce the potential risks associated with pedestrians using the road as a walkway.

I am a senior citizen with a disability and I enjoy walking every day but I find it very difficult to navigate these sidewalks because they are not up to acceptable standards. Children use these sidewalks to get to school or to their bus stops, and other residents of the area use these sidewalks as well, so improvement of the walkways would be valued by all that live in this community.

I often wonder why the section of sidewalk between Lenora Drive and Clark Station Road have been improved but not the section of Quarterfield Road between Lenora Drive & Harriet Drive.
