A 3 way stop is badly needed at this intersection

Great idea! 3 way stop would make turning from Montgomery Road safer.

I recently requested 3-way stops at both Montgomery and Hanover on the Rt One Master Plan Survey. They never respond but at least the situation is being heard. Neighbors and I also requested assistance last year at the Elkridge Library meeting. My next step is to contact our Council member to make her aware of our situation. It's becoming so dangerous that I actually slow down a bit to wait and see if someone's coming out of Montgomery. The sight distance is terrible and that flashing sign is a waste of electricity. It's basically ignored. Meanwhile, please be aware that I also requested a rush hour traffic signal at the south end of Old Washington and Rt One. This would alleviate much of the tie-up on the very short stretch of Montgomery for traffic attempting to turn south onto to Rt One.

STOP sign application is regulated by federal guidelines. STOP sign should be installed in a manner that minimizes the numbers of vehicles having to stop. In most cases, the street carrying the lowest volume of traffic should be stopped. In order to qualify for a multiway STOP control, the combined vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle volume entering the intersection from the minor street approaches (total of both approaches) averages at least 200 units per hour for 8 hours during a day. Total vehicular volume entering intersection from major street approaches (total of both approaches) averages at least 300 vehicles per hour for any 8 hours of the day. Preliminary multiway stop warrant study was completed for this intersection with the approach volumes collected during a turning movement count on December 4th, 2018. Since federal warrants for multiway stop control at this subject intersection are not satisfied, a multi-way stop is not recommended at the intersection of Old Washington Road at Montgomery Road.
A request to investigate the sight line at this intersection is created as a separate task.
