Every day I pass by Independence Park and the structure that the homeless are living in or behind is a terrible plight. Something needs to be done to get some housing for these people other than having them hang out at the park
, When tourists ride the ferry that is the first thing they see iand it’s a stain on Vallejo.

I’ve been saying homeless ppl need housing since I got on this app, but Vallejoans prefer to rotate them around the City. Actually the stain on Vallejo comes from it’s lack of empathy

S.O.S. “Same old s__t”. Vallejo can’t even help itself much less the homeless population. And anybody can say we need more housing, but how does it get built? Many solutions out there and all cost $$$, And there lies your problem. I don’t believe it’s all City Hall’s fault.

When was the last initiative or ballot measure for a homeless assistance or housing? And how did WE vote?

I think our taxes seem rather high for us not to share the same quality of life other cities do. Our public schools are a prime example. They are likely some of the worst in California

Property taxes appear pretty middle of the road, especially when you consider we are part of the bay area.

Our property taxes are based on our property’s value. So we are paying the same tax rates but there’s no work here, our schools are trash, VPD is closed Friday thru Sunday, our public transportation doesn’t run on Sundays or on holidays, We don’t have access to BART, etc., etc.,

Tax rates are one thing, revenue from viable businesses is another.

I think it was Will Rogers who said: be thankful we don’t get all the government we pay for.

Artsem, I was finally able to view the link you provided that states..."The median property tax in California is $2,839.00 per year for a home worth the median value of $384,200.00". That would be one payment installment for me. I pay almost that amount twice per year. I'm certain the other homeowners can verify that.

Your criticism is well-intentioned but wrong. I don't think I've seen many comments on SeeClickFix complaining about our taxes being unfairly high. In fact, there are regular suggestions of how increased -- but more wisely spent -- taxes might be used to improve the city.

What we do see, regularly and often, are comments on how poorly and wastefully our taxes are spent in Vallejo!

Observer, I am wrong? Just curious are we higher or lower in taxes then? Really I just scanned the documents - made observations as to whether the cities are metropolitan or rual and considered LA and San Francisco are kind of on their own It seemed like a wash, we are very middle of the road in Vallejo. You also commented that you’re not hearing complaints about high taxes and perhaps we should raise them and definitely spending more wisely, which I agree with. So again, are we high or low? Vallejo is an extremely affordable bay area city in my mind. Not sure why DJ is paying twice what everybody else is, maybe she is in a special assessment district.

If others aren't paying close $5K annually for property taxes in Vallejo please respond.

This is still an issue. There is still fires being burned by the homeless encampment that is still there. A group posing as fishermen with a barbecue have been there for weeks and burn something almost every night. At least stop the smoke. I have a child less than a year old and that smoke seeps into my home nightly

CSS has one part-time and three full-time employees who are responsible for addressing all quality of life concerns, supporting Neighborhood Watch groups, and working with the Neighborhood Law Program and Code Enforcement to address distressed and dangerous properties.
