As a kayaker, this downed tree under the Derby Avenue bridge is referred to as a STRAINER and could
potentially hurt any paddler that did not know what a
strainer was and got caught up in its branches. In heavy
water strainers have been known to capscize unsuspecting paddlers who were not equipped to deal
with conditions and often have not scouted their paddling areas first. As it implies STRAINERS collect
anything that floats by and can make very hazardous
conditions for the unsuspecting paddler.

Parks Department, please acknowledge. There is a small army of volunteers that would assist in the effort to remove this tree, but power equipment is needed here.

The tree has now been pulled up by the stump and moved alongside the bank so the river is clear and passable.As of 8/12/15
