Manning does not run east and west , it's just as easy to turn left or right on to Allen instead. It's not just as easy as installing a turn arrow. They would have to add in a turning lane which would require widening that stretch of western

The original post specified turning onto Manning and South Manning if coming eastbound or westbound on Western Ave. I know which way the Mannings run; I live here. I do not want to turn onto Allen if I live on Manning, and I believe one should be able to turn onto one's own street instead of taking yet another circuitous route just to get home. It is quite easy to make the left lanes on Western at the Manning intersection turn lanes--turn if you need to, go straight if you need to. Do this by means of nn arrow turn light installed for this option eastbound and westbound. In addition, no pedestrian in the City of Albany will risk his/her life crossing Western at Manning. There is no pedestrian walk light anywhere--and sorely needs to be--and with wild turns from traffic that has been sitting waiting to turn, and is going to take the chance to turn--the intersection is a pedestrian wipeout waiting to happen. Contrast this with the Washington/Manning intersection, for both pedestrians and traffic.

I use this left onto South Manning from Western most weekday mornings. It's actually preferable to going over South Pine and entering South Manning on one of the cross streets. It is difficult to turn onto North Pine from Western on the way home so my preference is to come over South Pine. Flexibility pays off.

Turn arrows with and without lanes (depending upon direction of travel) will be added to this intersection as part of a traffic signal replacement project that is scheduled to start later this summer. We will use split signal phasing to address the issues previously discused. This will increase the signal timing and delays slightly. But, it will addess the need for left turn arrows. In addition, pedestrian traffic signal equipment will be installed as part of this project.
