Description

On Tuesday, December 24, 2019 was street sweeping day on the block I live on. I’m speaking about on 55th Street between Market and Martin Luther King in Oakland California.

When I first came outside, I notice two City of Oakland meter employees parked closer to Market Street. The two city employees were outside of their meter cars talking to one another. I sat in my car to observe because there has been an illegal green SUV Blazer parked on our block for about a month now.

I could see that both drivers were females. One of the ladies got into her car and drove down 55th Street headed toward MLK. When she passed I could see she looked Spanish. There was a green SUV Blazer parked between Genoa and MLK, as she passed the illegal parked SUV Blazer she did not stop and ticket the automobile that was parked in front of 817-827 55th Street. As she passed the SUV she turned her head and looked at the SUV but kept driving. She turned into the gas station on the other side of the street on 55th and MLK.

I watched the second meter lady give a ticket to a car in near 871 55th St. There were about three cars that got tickets on that end of the block. As she approached Genoa headed towards MLK, when she passed, I could see that she looked African American/Black. She also did not stop to give the illegal green SUV Blazer a ticket. One of the guys that live in the SUV was sweeping the street with a little broom in front of his SUV.

As she passed the green SUV Blazer, she turned her head and looked at him but kept going and did not give him a ticket.

I could not get the City car number nor tag number of either of the city meter cars. But I was able to take a picture of the second meter car as she too was going to the gas station on 55th and MLK. I have attached a pic of the second meter car turning into the gas station at 1:21pm on December 24, 2019.

This illegal parked green SUV Blazer have been parked at 817-827 55th St. for over a month now. Many neighbors have fouled complaints with the City of Oakland. But the City has done nothing. What does it take for home owners to be able to park on the street close to our homes, be able to walk down the sidewalks without smelling human waste, looking at grocery carts, bags of trash on the sidewalk, bikes on top of the SUV and bikes around the SUV, plus seeing the meter employee not ticket the SUV.

Can I please get an answer from the City of Oakland on how they plan to handle the following two questions:
(1) How does the City of Oakland plan to handle the illegal parked green SUV Blazer near 817-827 55th Street for a month now?
(2) Why do some meter employees give some automobiles tickets and others like the SUV Blazer do not get a ticket?
