I'm on Gray St and walk the neighborhood a lot. We've seen more rats in the last week during the day than ever before. One huge dead one on Avon St., one baby one by the CHA building on Linnaean across from the school, and a big one on our street. What's going on? There isn't much construction going on which is what they usually give as a reason. There is an open waste barrel at the Harvard housing on the corner of Walker and Shepard. And the dumpster at Graham and Parks is wide open. Can't we get trash receptacles that keep rats out?

Given the unusual number of rats we've been seeing in this neighborhood for some time now, I think "no code violations were found" is not getting at the problem. Maybe the code needs to be modified? Because there is a widespread rat problem in the neighborhood and public health requires that it be remedied.

The owner / occupant was emailed at the address where the sighting was reported and we have requested permission to do an inspection. We can not access private property without permission.
