Putnam Street has an elementary school and many more children living on it than any of the streets in Hartford (predominantly in the West End) that have permanent speed bumps, yet Putnam Street only had temporary speed bumps installed two or three summers ago which were removed and never reinstalled. Repeated requests have been made by the Frog Hollow NRZ committee to no avail. Are poor, minority children deemed less worthy of protection than the wealthier few in the West End? The city's actions and indifference on this matter on my street seem to say just that.

Chris, that's interesting background. I agree there's a big gap between street quality on the West End when compared to the Frog Hollow area.

Has Frog Hollow NRZ set up a watch area on this site? I've found that the more people watching, the more likely the city is to be accountable.

This is an ongoing issue.

On Babcock Street as well. I have seen cars I estimate in excess of 60 MPH in front of Maria Sanchez school. Flat out from Park Street.

Closed. Please create a new case for speed bumps if needed due to Spring is near.

This issue should not be closed, as it has not been resolved. People should be able to see that the first request was made in 2009 and it is now 2014 with speeding continuing to be an issue on Putnam Street.

It might help to repaint the street and reconfigure on-street parking. This rapidly becomes a one-lane with speeding vehicles nearly hitting others head-on.

This is a problem city-wide. Does the police department ever hand out speeding tickets? I don't think I have ever seen it. I would be concerned that most of these drivers would try to make a run for it and create even more serious problems. They don't seem to care about anyone's safety.

Please do not reopen this issue. We have previously reported to our traffic division, at this point please contact the community liason at 860-757-9562 for a response.
