Description
There are many areas of the sidewalks on Pearl Avenue in Hamden, CT, on both sides of the street that have holes, cracks, and raised sections or otherwise damaged sections. These are very dangerous particularly when the weather is wet, icy, snowing, or windy. The holes and cracks fill with water, ice, and snow creating a slip and fall hazard. The holes also have pieces that break off, separate and fly around on a windy day creating a potential hazard. The holes, cracks, and raised sections cause trip hazards. We have lived on this street for more than 15 years and no work/maintenance has ever been done on the sidewalks. This is the best time (warm season) to make the repairs or replacements.

Thank you for reporting the site to the Town. We will be dispatching our inspector to the site to evaluate the sidewalk. Please allow us up to two weeks to conduct the inspection.
Can you be a bit more specific about the sites you are most concerned about? With just some very generic concerns, we may not be able to address your concerns.
We did evaluate part of the road in 2017 and we do have a list of sites to consider when we get to the street.

The Engineering Department originally inspected some of the road in 2015 and re-inspected additional sites in 2017. We have determined that there area areas of sidewalk, walkout, and driveway apron do need to be repaired. The site has been added to our master list for repairs.
The Town currently repairs sidewalks based on the roads with the oldest complaints. Once we get to a street, we attempt to repair all sidewalk problems on the street. We are currently working on streets with complaints from 2008 streets. Your street is a 2009 street.
Because of the current spending freeze and lack of a capital budget for 3 years, we do not know when we will begin sidewalk work again.
