I was just notified of the same issue by my insurance carrier and it's a result of 'SANDY'. I'm in the process of looking for a land surveyor myself. I just bought the house on Arden St and can't believe all of these new charges due hurricane sandy. I think it's absolutely ridiculous being a new single homeowner! So yes, I'm looking for a surveyor.

I used Adam Hoffman of Godfrey Hoffman Associates. He is familiar with the Cove and did a FEMA appeal for me. I think we need to work together to fight this. Tell Adam you got this from a neighbor in the Cove!!! Fight back!!

Judy it's a FEMA thing due to sandy etc. I live around the corner. We should talk. If we do it with the same surveyor it should be cheaper.

If you are familiar with the East Shore Management Team meetings, would anyone be willing to do some research and bring your report to the meeting? I could then send the information out to the 200+ email list in East Shore. We could also invite State Rep Megna and Senator Looney to the meeting also.

Although it is known as a “Management Team”, it is a Neighborhood Team contributing to the “management” of our area. The goal is to keep our neighborhoods safe, to help change the things that we can, to talk about issues that not only concern ourselves, our neighbors or our area but general issues that concern the residents of City of New Haven.

ESMT Meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month except in January (NO January meeting).

What kind of information? I might recommend that the MGT TEAM publicize that this flood issue will be a topic at the next meeting. Perhaps the team could invite the City Plan folks to come explain what is going on. People are going to be driven from their homes and not by flood waters!

I am unable to meet today @ 6 due to an urgent issue & I'm not sure if I will be back in time but I can do so during the week after 6pm.

I have received my letter from my insurance company with respect to things I will have to do before they will CONSIDER renewing my flood insurance and at what increased cost.

I want to be clear, that even if there are only a few of us going through this right now, everyone in a flood zone in Morris Cove, will be subject to cancellation upon renewal. You will need to pay for a flood elevation survey by a certified engineer (approx. 800-1000 dollars) AND your rate which is currently subsidized by the federal government will be gone and your rates will increase significantly.

Rosa DeLauro is working on legislation but with this Congress it is likely to fall on deaf ears. So the middle class who can't afford to pay even higher flood insurance will likely be forced to sell, if you even can given the increased rates, and the Morris Cove area will be taken over by those of much higher means or become owned by the banks.

I think we should all be working together on this. Three of us talking about it does not change what is likely to effect the entire neighborhood in a very negative way. I know many of you have not received your letter yet, but it is coming. If we are to do anything about changing this, we all need to move on it now. This is a neighborhood, one of the very few left in New Haven. Let's keep it that way. We all need to pitch in and it cannot wait until February.

The new law passed is called the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012. Look into it on the FEMA website.

This bill was supposed to be killed before it went into effect but somehow it slipped by the wizards in Washington. Waterboarder is right that this will be affecting lots of people and they will slowly be made aware of this as insurance policies renew. If the 3 of us can't get together, then wait for the Feb Mgt Team but meantime, pls contact Rosa DeLauro's office as well as Sal DeCola.

News! I got a temporary quote from Liberty Mutual. They estimated (without the elevation certificate) that my insurance was going up more than 250%. This is ridiculous. Anyone going to get a meeting together?> Sal?

I forwarded the issue and a surveyor from Godfrey Hoffman will be attending the next Management Team meeting on Feb 11 at the Firehouse. You should tell everyone affected to plan to be there to hear what is going on. You and everyone must also contact Rosa D and demand that the ridiculous law be changed.

I did contact Godfrey Hoffman who gave me a quote of 850.00 which seems to be the going rate. Just need to make an appointment so that they can start the process.

I have done all I can to let others know. It is up to the elected officials and ppl with email lists to get this out. Rosa knows. Someone else has to run with the ball. I have to focus on saving my home. Adam Hoffman is wonderful.

There was a great response to the robberies when everyone was at risk. No one seems to be putting in the same energy on this issue even though it's a huge threat to everyone in MC who may lose their homes. MC residents won't be able to pay the insurance rates or sell their houses. Not good and the lackluster response is just depressing.

Please come to the meeting at the Firehouse on Feb 11 and tell everyone you know to be and to call every politician they can to get this bill killed before we are ruined. We must take action together and let our voices be heard. Who has a connection to the Register, WTNH, NHIndependent? Other local news places. This story has to get out that people are being forced from their homes because insurance companies and FEMA don't want to pay claims and want to get prior claims paid for out of our hides.
