How do residents of Cambridge move their belongings?? How does a local business get materials/goods? We are asked to support local business and to shop locally.
Why can't bicyclists share the road and bike around the vehicle? The idea of bicyclists sharing some of the costs of road maintenance has been raised. This is a reasonable & fair approach.
But cars do share the road with parked vehicles-- Parked cars park on on the side of the road and moving vehicles move down the center. Why can't moving bicycles go down the center of the road. also when necessarfy?? OMG! LOL back at you!
Your solution is to find a place to legally park. The law clearly states that you can not park in a bike lane. You want to move find a legal place to park.
Bike lanes have removed parking places for local businesses. . Bicycles don't pay a cent towards road maintenance or bicycle lane creation . Goodbye to local businesses! We will miss you as well as the jobs .and taxes you generated. All for gd bicycles!
What an absolute joke. Sorry you have to legally park a couple more feet away. That's definitely going to destroy businesses. If you haven't noticed, many people have lost their lives on bikes from reckless driving. If you'd rather have a place to park than prevent needless deaths you should reexamine your values.
I bike and drive around the city. When I am driving my car, I always yield to bicyclists and pedestrians. There are complicated intersections & streets where well designed bike lanes are completely helpful. Western Ave is a good example. . In a few places there is the luxury of space for well designed bike paths -- like Vassar Ave. But there would be nothing not safe with 100% road sharing between bikes and cars with STRICT enforcement of new speed limit. Visibility of bicyclist is best when the bicycle is in the middle of the roadway- not off to the side. To me, the most dangerous practice is to route bike lanes in the opposite direction of car traffic- like on Brattle St and the street next n to Harvard University's Trinity Church. It's a confusing pattern and especially dangerous to pedestrians who now have to look in all directions twice -first for cars and then for bicycles. Bicycles should be registered and licensed.
