The sidewalk is not ADA compliant but I would hate to see this tree cut down. It's large and beautiful and still beneficial for the tree canopy. Perhaps a bump out could be created?

Dear City of Cambridge, it takes a human lifetime to grow an oak tree like this.  Please don't kill it.  Instead of cutting down this marvelous tree, please route the sidewalk out into the street and around the tree.  This type of sidewalk rerouting has enabled another oak tree on Prentiss Street to grow decades longer, and it contributes to the beauty of the neighborhood on Prentiss Street.  As you can see in the photos, there is plenty of parking on this street, and many Cantabrigians are using the sharing economy (Lyft, Uber, etc) instead of owning cars, so the city can afford one parking space for beautifying the neighborhood around Carver Street and enabling this tree to grow for decades more.

I agree with Debby, above. Can the city keep the tree and do an ADA sidewalk bump-around the tree? Would be really great. There’s a perfect example on Prentiss St. Thx

Totally agree with comments -- we should not lose that tree! Routing the sidewalk around the tree sounds like a good plan. and while you're at it perhaps Carver street can be made into a one-way street.

Tree appears to be in good condition at this time. Removal is not required. Request has been sent to another division to look at alternate sidewalk options.

Oh, for the days when accessibility for pedestrians and people with limited mobility was at the top of Cambridge’s priorities! In this low-lying area, adding a bump-out will make stormwater management at this oft-flooded corner even more difficult. From the comments, I infer that it is easier in 2021 to imagine how trees contribute to human wellbeing than it is to imagine the accessibility needs of Cantabrigians who walk for health and transportation.

DO NOT CUT DOWN THIS TREE. WHAT AN AWFUL IDEA.
