  • 55th Street And Dover Intersection Oakland, California - Bushrod
A crosswalk has been needed for years at the intersection of 55th Street and Dover, between MLK and Shattuck Avenue. Cars drive at advanced speeds and pass other cars since the street is quite wide (even with the addition of the bike lanes neighbors suggested). Due to its location between several freeway on and off ramps, along with the street's width, drivers treat this stretch of road as a freeway extension. At the residential intersection of 55th and Dover, residents and neighborhood visitors and Children's Hospital Oakland employees (often children and seniors) routinely cross to reach the hospital, the popular Dover Street Park (@Dover/59th), the North Senior Oakland Senior Center, CHORI, and the bus stops (two well-used AC Transit lines run down 55th Street) on either side of the street. Although not a formal bike route, Dover Street is also heavily utilized by bicyclists. Crossing for pedestrians and bikers is often an impossible task due to the lack of signage and a steady stream of speeding cars (some passing other cars in the oncoming lane at even higher speeds). It is particularly difficult to cross during the winter, when residents coming home from work must disembark from buses and try to cross the street after dark (and sometimes in the rain). Pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers would benefit greatly from a large reflective thermoplast crosswalk and reflective signage at 55th/Dover to alert drivers to the presence of pedestrians (particularly children and seniors) for whom they should slow down.
  • Other: Sewers Archived
5606 San Pablo Avenue Oakland, CA 94608, USA - Gaskill
Plugged sewer main means no toilets for the librarians and surrounding businesses! This needs to be fixed right away!
  • 2219-2399 Wood Street Oakland, California - Clawson
Several neighbors have fallen on their bikes on this street, as it still contains embedded tracks parallel to the direction of traffic, and questionably in the middle of the road. There are zero traffic markings, so it becomes double dangerous, as cyclists (or motorists!) must guess the intention of oncoming traffic, as to where they believe the left- and right-hand lanes should be. This road needs decades-since-active rails removed, a resurfacing, and better traffic markings. As this neighborhood grows, Wood Street has great potential to be bike boulevard, connecting Oakland residences to Emeryville (and Oakland) businesses.
  • Driver Plaza Oakland, California - Santa Fe
Driver Plaza needs help from every city agency. It is frequently the site of all-day drinking fests, the trees are dying from the daily, constant urination by the drunks who party there, and the tree planters are giant garbage cans where the drunks throw their cigarette butts, liquor bottles, needles, cans, and other nasty garbage. The bus stop glass is frequently shattered by drunk, angry people. Families try to walk their dogs and children through the gross mess and cyclists try to navigate this bike corridor without getting flats from all the broken glass.
  • Street Light Archived
3300 Grand Avenue Oakland, California - Lakeshore
This issue relates to the Walker Avenue parking lot - the entrance to which is between 3268 and 3300 Grand. This city parking lot has a huge problem with auto break-ins and there's also an inordinate amount of armed robberies in this area. From what we've been told, there are no plans currently to replace the existing lighting with LEDs. In the interest of safety and as a way to provide needed support to Grand Avenue businesses, we'd urge the city to find the means to make this possible.
  • Pothole Archived
5624 Market Street Oakland, California - Santa Fe
Giant pothole originated on the street in front of 5624 Market Street and now extends to the sidewalk. The F and 88 bus travel on this street countless times a day and there is an inordinate amount of vehicle traffic on this street. This is an ADA issue as seniors and the disabled use this street to go and from the grocery store two structures away and to access the bus stops.
  • 522 20th Street (Thomss L Berkley Way) Oakland, California - San Pablo Gateway
The multi-family building under construction next to the climbing gym is occupying the sidewalk and had cordon-ed off a temporary crossing that was working well. Last week, the temporary crossing became a storage area for rebar and pedestrians are being directed to cross mid-block. This is a very un-safe situation. There is too much of a desire line to stay on the north side of the street, and I keep seeing people walking in the street instead of crossing. The street also has a lot of AC Transit buses running on it that don't mix well with pedestrians walking in the street. The buildings on the north side of the street include the County Social Services building, Uptown Place condos, SEIU, and climbing gym. Please require them to keep this crossing open. I am attaching a picture of a man in a walker crossing in the street here. Every day, I see something like this. Thanks in advance for your attention to this.
  • 4326 Market Street Oakland, California - Longfellow
This pothole is so large that my entire house shakes every time a truck or bus drives over it.
  • 59th St And Mlk Oakland, California - Bushrod
Recently the stoplight at MLK on 59th does not stay green long enough to cross the street on a bike. Many families commute on bikes here at busy times, and it is not safe. Please make the green going east/west on 59th at MLK longer.
  • Tynan Ave And Mariner Square Dr Alameda, California - Alameda
Pedestrian crosswalk needed at this intersection. Pedestrians from AC transit bus stop at Webster St. and Stargell Ave have no safe way to cross Mariner Square Dr. into the Marina Village business park. Cost Plus World Market recently relocated to this business park with over 300 employees now commuting here daily.
  • 1202 44th Avenue Oakland, California - Melrose
A Camper has been parked on the north side of East 12th Street near the intersection of 44th Ave for over a month without being moved. This is just one of three parked on East 12th between High Street and 47th Ave for the last five months. The street cleaner has maneuvered around each of the campers at several times - and it appears that no parking violation citation has been issued. This area is becoming a homeless encampment for campers and motor home dwellers. This is a mixed residential and business area, with many children in the neighborhood. The activities that are occurring at these dwellings is scary, to say the least. Please enforce the parking laws in this area and give us our neighborhood back.
  • 57th Street And Telegraph Avenue Oakland, California - Fairview Park

57th Street is a popular foot transit corridor connecting Idora Park and Bushrod neighborhoods to Claremont Ave. and Rockridge. Particularly during commuting hours, many residents from West of Telegraph cross at 57th Street in order to access AC transit and casual carpool on Claremont Ave., Rockridge BART, and the Rockridge shopping district. While there are currently crosswalks on Aileen Street and 58th Street, on a daily basis I witness adults, seniors, children, and bicyclists dodge four lanes of traffic across Telegraph at 57th. This is often extremely dangerous -- I've personally witnessed many near-accidents. A crosswalk is needed at this busy intersection.

The city's crosswalk decision matrix recommends marked crosswalks be installed when there is a gap between existing crosswalks of 900 feet or more. The existing gap between the marked crosswalks at Aileen at Telegraph and 58th at Telegraph is over 1,000 feet.

As such, I am requesting that a new crosswalk be striped across Telegraph at 57th Street.
