Description
We live near Dimond Park. We have safety concerns regarding the parking lot at Canon Avenue and Wellington Street. The parking lot at Canon and Wellington is often used by cars and people partying in the evening after the park has closed. Given a spate of recent safety concerns in our neighborhood, we should discourage people from hanging out in this parking lot after park closure. This routine hang out creates an invitation, not only for people to treat our neighborhood like an open public space which, after park hours, it is not. To walk past an evening scene of people partying with loud music, smoking and drinking while parked in the lot can be very uncomfortable.
In the past, the parking stalls adjacent to the park at Canon and Wellington were chained off at night. By closing the parking stalls with chains, the feeling and reality of neighborhood safety will be improved. Please establish a protocol with park personnel that they resume closing parking stalls in the evening after the park has closed.
Thank you for your consideration

Dear "Anonymous"
,
You do understand that the issues of your concern are NOT under the purview of the Dept. of Public Works.
You raise a valid issue, but DPW is not the agency to address this problem; please contact your NCPC (www.oakland22x.org) to help resolve this on-going problem.

Hi Jeff, When you say someone from OPD Neighborhood Services, do you mean your Neighborhood Services Coordinator? This person thought the Oakland Public Works Agency could help? Hmmm… It seems to me you need police enforcement of park closing hours, so talking to your OPD Problem Solving Officer would be a good idea. If you want chains put up, I imagine you need to contact the Oakland Parks and Rec Dept.

Is that beat 16Y or 22X? I'm pretty sure Renee Sykes in the Neighborhood Services Coordinator for 16Y and I think Hoang Bahn is 22X. At any rate, go here to find your police beat and your OPD Problem Solving Officer:

and here to find your Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council:

Good luck!
