We have been having trouble with speeding My kids and or children have to be at the corner everyday to get on and off their school bus We try to cross the street to get to bus stop and these drivers just speed pass and giving us time to cross For instance this morning, a parent was trying to cross the street with his lil one this morning and a guy almost hit them And the driver had the audacity to roll his window down and curse at him and say there is no light so he don't have to stop And this had happen several times since school reopened We as parents really need a street light for the safety of out children We made several complaints when they were campaigning for election but nothing has been done or even looked into We really need someone to do something before someone especially a child gets hurt I have a already lost someone this new year due to a reckless driver and I do t want it to happen again We need to protect our children Please help , ,

We also have an issue when the school bus is stopped, drivers like to go around bus aggressively.

You should contact the police director, Tawana Moody, and ask for police protection when the buses are picking up and dropping off. Nothing on this list will go to the JCPD. You need protection now. Meanwhile, neighbors should organize to keep watch on the kids and ONLY CROSS AT MARKED CROSSWALKS.

I’ve tried getting in contact with the mayor but no response. Right now it says that his office is closed and opens till 6pm. Which is crazy if you ask me. I work in the area he live and that area is very well put together. But when we, the “nobody’s”want something done in our neighborhood, we can’t get no one to come come around or even try to contact us.

I was thinking of starting a petition and go around the neighborhood to see how many signatures I can get,and take it to city hall or whoever is responsible for this sort of thing. But it would be very helpful to have the support of the neighborhood. We definitely need to figure something out for the safety of out community.

Thanks for reporting this. It is SUCH a dangerous intersection. Both of my kids have gone to the child care center on Mallory between Lexington and Roosevelt, and I have been brought to tears by the difficult crossing here. Even when wearing the baby or pushing the stroller, so few people stop! You wind up having to wait for red lights at both Communipaw AND Clendenny, and even then you need to watch out for people who turned off side streets - and we shouldn't have to do that anyway, because pedestrians have the right of way! Even with the marked crosswalks, drivers are fast and often aggressive here. We urgently need the city to protect pedestrians.

We need large corner bump outs to be more visible and things to slow cars down in addition to a light. also having an undercover there to observe this may help make the city money too. Since that is always what it comes down to

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We will conduct a preliminary traffic assessment to determine what type of traffic control is warranted at this intersection. The preliminary assessment will also help identify if a more in-depth study is required. Please allow 4 to 6 months for preliminary study to be completed

So I guess no one is going to fix the speeding problem we have on Lexington and Mallory ave right? I guess your waiting for someone to get hurt before anything gets done. School is back on and nothing has changed. It’s worse now with the construction on 440. Come on people!

The Department completed a traffic study which determined that a multi-way STOP configuration was warranted at this intersection. The City Council adopted an ordinance and STOP signs and striping were installed at this intersection in May 2023. The Department will continue to monitor conditions.
